You won't get two people in KC to agree on what is the best BBQ, but I think we can all agree that Q39 does some of the best beef burnt ends in town.

Not that you asked, but Joe's is my favorite KC BBQ, mostly because they do everything damn good, every time. Even their sides and sauces are fantastic. Give me a Joe's burnt end sandwich with a cup of smoked chicken gumbo, and load that sandwich up with Night of the Living BBQ sauce. Their all meat chili is great too, but seasonal.

Glad you were able to visit! Enjoy your time at the breweries!

Hit up Joe’s today. Everything was excellent, but that smoked chicken gumbo was sensational.

also did Boulevard, Alma Mader and BKS. All were excellent, but really impressed by BKS.

BKS makes the best hops in MO. Very underrated nationally.

Wind Shift (in Blue Springs) closed in May.

That space won’t stay empty for very long, however, as 9 Foot Brewing will open there once all their remaining state and local approvals go through.

Seems like Oak & Steel's anniversary event last year sold out (or at least the noon to 3PM time slot). Looks like tickets are still available to each time slot.

If you're going and want to meet up for a beer, feel free to send me a message. I'm still torn between revisiting BBT (one of my favorite beers of all time) or trying Parallels.

go BBT. Parallels is just the 1000th cinnamon stout out of SP. If you’ve had one, you’ve had em all

    I'm doing the 7-10 slot.

It's only fully mentioned on Instagram, but there's also going to be bottle pours of Alma Mader Four and draft pours of Toppling Goliath Fire Stoker, Side Project Continuance (Batch 3), and Cantillon Camerise.

I haven't tried any SP Continuances, so that'll definitely be one I visit. I've had AM Four, and while I really enjoyed it, will probably focus on things I can't typically get (or don't want to put the effort into getting.)

    Pretty excited for it!

Another new brewery in the metro opened this weekend: Lotawana Brewing Company.

Speaking of new breweries, I know that 9 Foot (Blue Springs) will open at the end of the month and based on their Facebook activity, Discourse (Overland Park) will likely open soon as well. Any others that will make it over the line in 2023?

Alma Mader & Westport Cafe oyster pop-up October 20th, 4-8pm. Sounds like Parlez is coming back.

    Anyone here going?

I missed the last one or two of these events, but really enjoy them. It looks like I should be able to make it to this one!

BKS Artisan Ale's Sixth Anniversary Party is this weekend in their parking lot and taproom. Saturday, 1PM open with last call at 8:45pm (typo? taproom closes at 8pm). Few different live music acts and a couple food vendors. $10 cover charge which includes one beverage.

Six new beers. Two announced so far:
VI - Unfiltered West Coast Style Pale Ale
Iron Rose - West Coast Style IPA

Hopeful for a return of some BA beer, but we'll see what gets announced. Unless anyone here has some gossip on the other four beers?

Saw you mention you're swinging through KC in the STL thread. What brewery(s) and BBQ place(s) do you plan to visit? Need any suggestions?

appreciate it. right now pencils are on Boulevard, KC Bier, and BKS. After that I think it gets open-ended. I've done research on a lot of places so maybe some things require more selling. Wouldn't mind crossing over into Kansas side to say I went to Kansas. Look to see if there's a tourism booth just on the other side of the state line... map/magnet and skedaddle. I don't see any must hit beer on that side. Alma Mader is out because they're closed but i don't think they have what i'm interested in.

I have Martin city saved from past research. The first 3 seem to be the big options.

Disappointed Kaufman stadium doesn't offer daily tours. I don't live or die on getting to every ballpark tour but I've done decent so far... DC, Balt, Boston, SD, Denver, Cubs (white sox didn't do one), screwed up Milwaukee because I busted a rental car mirror but I still went to the gift shop. Cleveland I also screwed up for different reasons. So yeah, I might swing by and take the best peek I can get and add to my shot glass collection.

BBQ I had Arthur Bryants penned in a couple of years ago. I see Q39, I think that looks familiar. My preference is for authentic but hasn't lost its touch (hasn't declined). If one place is good at one thing then another is good at something else then to me that sounds like lunch and dinner.

    ---

Blessing and curse of these trips is there's always things you will miss because there's so many breweries. I try to hit what are the most obvious flagships in a city. After that... tough to read... good beer plus good venue, good beer plus talkative/cool staff, good beer plus fun logo marks.

Goal is going to start the day in a near suburb but end the day in st. louis to head out to Indianapolis the next day.

Appreciate the helpful recs in the thread. I'm making my first trip to Kansas City next Sunday from Philadelphia with my dad and a few buddies for a few days of BBQ, bourbon/beer, and rooting for the Eagles to hopefully demolish the Chiefs on MNF.

Schedule will be pretty limited and we'll be staying in a hotel near the stadium so unfortunately I don't have high hopes about being able to fully explore the city to its potential... but if I prioritize a Sunday afternoon of beer/BBQ (and maybe watching the NFL games?) are there any strong suggestions?

Current plan is to prioritize Alma Mader, perhaps Oak & Steele and then hit up Joe's on 47th, based on a friend's recommendation. Think those are all close enough together (and also near the Negro League Baseball Museum?), but if there's another area I should focus on instead recommendations are appreciated!

Other random spots on my list based on a friend's recommendations and this thread (however, again keeping in mind that I will be a little pressed for time and my fellow travelers may not be as flexible to seek out a ton of spots)...
    KC Bier Co
    Waldo Thai
    River Market area generally
    Drastic Measures for cocktails
    Arthur Bryant's (instead of Joe's?)

Joe’s isn’t open on Sundays, so that’s out for your plans that day. Since you’re a first-time visitor (and you’re also planning on hitting up the baseball museum) you may want to do Bryant’s instead. As a last thought on the BBQ topic, if you want to get some closer to Alma Mader or Oak & Steel, Chef J in the West Bottoms is fantastic; if you go, I strongly recommend getting there right when they open at noon, as they *will* sell out for the day before their nominal closing time.

Oak & Steel will air all the locally-available games, and in a very recent development, Alma Mader now has a TV as well. If you’re looking to watch games that will only be on Sunday Ticket, I don’t have a good handle as to which places downtown have it besides Johnny’s Tavern in the Power & Light District.
