Getting those scotch ales today! Deciding what else I want. Anyone had Velvet or Concert Beer yet?

I’ve had the concert beer and thought it was middlin as far as treehouse IPA’s go.

Interesting that they labeled it as a potential beer of the year for them. They still know how to market/hype

I was surprised when I saw that myself. Nate seemingly thinks it’s a legit beer of the year. Maybe it is, just not in my book.

Hope you like smoke! The Old World Bourbon Scotch Ale was undrinkable for me. IMHO. Be curious of your thoughts. Cheers

Drinking Satin right now. Either something has changed with me, or Tree House. I don’t drink them as much as I used to (I was going up multiple times per month at one point), but in the last year or less, I keep getting this unpleasant “woody” aftertaste with all the new beers they brew. I thought it was the crop of Galaxy, but this has none. I’ll know for sure when I crack open a Green or Julius, which I’ve had many of, but not in over a year. If those have it, I think something had changed in the brewing process. I don’t think it’s me, because I still drink IPAs regularly, and haven’t experienced this flavor, or any real changes in the beers I buy, whether I’ve had them before or not

Ok so I was too curious. Opened a Julius and it does NOT have this flavor. Thankful for that because I bought mostly the OG offerings. The Julius looks a little oxidized, strangely. Dark color and the head fizzled away immediately. Guess Im just a negative nancy

This wouldn't explain stuff pre Data Set, but Satin is a new yeast blend.

This is Tree House's "new fermentation profile" moment. Silk, Satin, Velvet all use the new yeast profile derived from the data set series. As long as they don't give up on the classic profile, like Trillium did, and continue to use the old yeast for the old classics, Nate will be able to see whether people like it or not. I guess we'll see how it all shakes out.

Treehouse yeast is a large part of what makes their beer their beer. While I trust the new beers are good, and probably a good change of pace for people who are lucky enough to drink them a lot, for someone like me has been twice in almost a year - I tend to go for the classic treehouse profile I fell in love with 8 years ago. I’m also a weirdo who prefers single IPAs over DIPAs. My hoppy haul tends to be 75% in that range. Plus on site you gotta love them 18oz pours baby!

One explanation would be that they’ve been experimenting with new yeasts and stuff with the new beers for a while and just haven’t said so. No real need to. Also, I tried one of the data set offerings and thought it was pretty good. In here I compared it to Jjjuice project citra/mosaic/galaxy and it was much better to me.

Core stuff tastes just the same if not better than last few years. No issues there. The new series is by design a bit different. I’ve loved each of them. But you will have to be open minded I feel. If you’re just expecting a version of green, Julius or Haze these are quite different. But in a very good way. The data series set was a great way to have already tried it.

In other news: Ceylon Swirl is outstanding. I love their pastry stouts because they’re usually not over the top sweet, even though you would expect it to be

    Questions on Deerfield location.

I will be in the area next week. Can I just stop by to grab a few beers at the bar? Do I need to order to go online or can I order at the bar? Is the pizza any good? The website give info but I dont think it spells out what I am looking for in a good way. There will be six of us that want to have a beer or two , eat and decide on beer to go. Most have not had any beers from TH so we wanted to drink a few and make our to go choices after we had a few beers.

    Any input will be great.

    Thanks

    Enjoy

You'll have to buy draft tickets, which you can either do online, or buy on site there. You'll then take your draft ticket to the bar and exchange it for whatever beer you'd like.

The pizza is, in a word, incredible. It might be my favorite pizza. The pepperoni with hot honey is particularly fantastic. The pizza's crispy with just a little bit of char. It's thin, but not so thin that it doesn't have any structural integrity. A word of warning, if you're there on a weekend and you don't get your order in early you could have an hour and a half wait for pizzas.

Yes, it looks like they did a really good job at making New Haven style pizza. Still haven't had any from TH, but the pictures tell me it's a top tier pie

How does Tewksbury work if you want draft pours and beer to go? The website makes the draft pour situation sound essentially identical to Charlton—you get in line and order draft tickets on your phone. But the to-go situation is reservation only. So is it best to do your to-go order online, get there at your pickup time to grab your cans, then get in line for a pour? At Charlton I usually do the reverse, and just order my cans after I’ve had my pours and am ready to leave, but it sounds like that won’t work at Tewks.

They have a kiosk on site at the taproom in the retail store where you can order your to go after you have finished your beers. They'll bring it there. It's not clear and the people at the retail store won't say anything to you as you order. I forgot what it said on the order but I was under the impression that I had to go to the to go area to pick up the beers (might have said go to "pick up area"). Mini rant from having a weird/frustrating experience. Anyway, they'll bring it up to the retail store where the dumbwaiters are.
