Omitted modern times as they're done for but overall the list is swell however, David is right regarding GOAL though if you want to avoid the shitstorm and overall actually enjoy yourself then go out there and explore said options and if possible maybe try squeezing into GOAL but expect possible sardine packing. Also, have fun in little italy as you're going to enjoy the parking... cheers.

Lol I certainly am not going to be driving. Maybe I’ll try to hit GOAL on Sunday. Or at least a stroll by one of the days to see how the crowd is.

I feel blasting it on here might be a bad idea but there is a "word of mouth soft opening" for GOAL today (noon to 10pm). But since Derek posted it publicly he likely has a further reach anyways.

Yes, they're quite clearly trying to keep things low key this week.

I actually stopped by yesterday and they allowed me to come in for a few beers. Cool spot and solid beers.

Based on a recent interview, the focus is on drinkability so lower ABV IPAs, lagers, and fruited sours

I will be making my first-ever trip to San Diego Aug 3-6. This is a work trip, but there will be downtime and I have all day on the 3rd practically. I will not have a car and do not know what the public transportation situation is but will be staying at the Manchester Grand Hyatt near the convention center. So, my question is what is nearby worth checking out for drinks or food? Is there anything worth venturing farther out to check out? I like all beer styles, so not looking for anything in particular, just some cool spots to check out and drink some great beers.

Within either a short walk or else a quick uber/taxi ride you could hit up Resident Brewing inside The Local, basically a sports bar.

I would recommend Eppig Waterfront because the view is fantastic. Drink some nice beers and watch boats. Grab some grub from Mitch's Seafood while there. I don't like seafood but I am told it is excellent.

Cruise into Liberty Station and goto the Stone Brewing location there (nice gardens and relaxing environment) or go inside actual Liberty Station and get some food from the various eateries in there and hit up Bottlecraft for some good beers and togo stuff.

Edit: Downtown will be a tad rambunctious that weekend since the Dodgers are in town, so a headsup on places being busy.

Thanks for the heads up on the crowds. Eppig was on my radar as I noticed it mentioned here multiple times and it seems to be one of the closer options to where I am staying.

There is also a convention happening that weekend with about 7000 attendees. Wonder if I'll see @dtx00 there?!? Between the convention and the Dodgers series it will be quite the scene.

Downtown San Diego busy! My old friends and I caroused a few times downtown in the early 70s. There were some busy spots. Navy types kept the Pacific Rim themed bars (Korea, Phillipines, Japanese . . .). We also found the hopping Zebra club, which was featuring the Tom Cat blues band (tom Courtney). Otherwise downtown was pretty well deserted. No trouble finding parking or a dinner spot then.

I will be there for said convention, unless there is more than one occurring that weekend.

My only gripe with eppig is that the only beer they send out this way is the 1045 to Denver (you guessed it, another IPA) as if anyone needs that. Hoping they send something else out here

    From 2020 trip.

Half Door Brewing with Petco in distance. Monster truck set up for that February day. Food & beer top notch.

Eppig beer & location pretty special.

Ocean Beach & a Hodad’s trip is worth it.

Mini trip report from an VA BA if anyone cares. Tagged along with my wife's work trip and we wanted to try some of the breweries we had never been to in the past.

-Pure Project - Great vibe, good mix of styles.
-North park - Do you like ipas? It was great, but be ready for hops.
-Burgeon - This one was the surprise, maybe it was my perception, but I did not think there was much hype for them as the other big name spots. But we thought everything we tried was very well done.
    -Had a beer at Stone.

Stopped at Bottlecraft little Italy also, we used to have a Bottlecraft in VA beach that has closed, so it felt very familiar. Enjoyed the variety of options at the Padres game, you never know with some ballparks.
My only regret was not tracking down some Mcilhenny cans, as an out-of-towner that once made the pilgrimage to OG Alpine many years ago, I hoped to stumble upon some cans to compare/reminisce. Maybe next time.

Word is Raul is headed to San Diego in mid October. Question: is it for keeps?
