I made the switch to Coors Banquet but opened this just now.
Drank it really fast which is The way it should be.
My last can of Reubens x Hair of the Dog 10th Anniversary.
Not a big fan of any HotD stuff, but Adam has a place in my heart . This ones decent and not one i would turn down, but wouldn't seek out again.
Regardless i must give it up to HotD as they are one of the most unique breweries on the west coast.

Impressive efforts from both B-Wine bros! i can only count 19 for the year and 22 in the "hopper" so 40 is the goal.
    Cheers!

Back home after an amazing trip with the family. Wish we were still there, but I expect this to be a tasty consolation. A collaboration between Jackie O's and Pelican just has to be good. Mother of All Bricks, aged 17 months in extremely rare 19-year-old bourbon barrels.

The depth in this one is incredible. Up front are dried fruits like figs and raisins primarily with lesser notes of apricot and maybe a little transparent apple. These flavors deepen and intensify into the finish which adds molasses, creme brulee, concentrated vanilla, and more faintly, cocoa, bitter oak, and strongly roasted nuts. The bourbon blanketing everything is not shy but also marvelously well incorporated. What a gem!

I am back! My wife is heading to Ohio next week and bringing my Jackie O's beers back here. Can't wait to try all of them. I am looking forward to opening some more of the barleywines that you sent. Cheers Dan!

    Hello all
I have the house to myself after work today and I figured I'd relax and enjoy something I was looking forward to.

JW Lees Harvest Ale matured in Port Casks

275mL bottle brewed in 2012 and purchased recently at room temp 11.5% ABV per label. The beer pours opaque medium brown resembling ice tea with a khaki head that lasted less than 60 seconds on a pretty hard pour. No lacing. The aroma is mild with old leather bound books, dark dried fruits and sweet caramel. The taste is semisweet with berry jam up front before more leather, burnt sugar caramel, port wine and oak. Mild bitterness. The mouthfeel is thin to medium bodied with minimal carbonation and an undry finish. Overall, excellent.

This one is literally right in my "sweet spot" for English style barley wines. Happy I liberated this bottle from languishing on a store shelf.

    Cheers all!

Decided to have a 2023 Bourbon barrel Brick Kiln to compare with the Mother from last night.

12.5% this year. Similar dried fruit notes, less intense and leaning more in the prune direction. The sweetness here is a bit more sugary and not quite as layered. Less oaky than Mother but the bourbon addition is similar. Another splendid vintage, better than last year I believe. I give a slight edge to the matriarch overall though.

2014 MoaS from Pelican! It basically has no head. Interesting and intense taste. Molasses, some black licorice, brown sugar, sweet sticky toffee, and some oxidation. Pretty still at this point. This has caused it to almost have a syrupy mouthfeel. Definitely not as good as when fresh, but still enjoyable. Cheers!

My experience with probably close to 20 bottles is that 5 years is about the max for this beer.

Finishing off a bottle of Dystopias from Free Will that I opened a few months ago. Loved it then but I think it's even better now.

The 20.1% wasn't all that noticeable then but it's even more mellow now, it's a bit sweeter as well. I'm getting more chocolate, raisin, and cherry. I don't think I noticed sherry before now and it's working really well. I've had a bit from the 750ml bottle 5-6 times over these last months at cellar temperature and I've really enjoyed the process.

The star of the show today at Rev release. Got 2 pours since it was so good! I am not a huge wine fan but this one was great. Sweet with a little tannic flavor on the back end of the taste. The complexity is there and the finish is caramel sugar bourbon. Booze is hidden well. Would drink more of this any day.

Oh my god that sounds amazing! Regular Lumberstruck was a gem, maybe better than SJ?

Yes, tried Life Jacket. Your assessment is correct. It was a miss of a beer for me. We didn't finish the 6oz pour of it. Not horrible but not worth the ABV compared to the others.

I missed out on Lumberstruck and only had this. I'm sure the regular was quite good but this seemed like another level. The VSO treatment and DB treatment tend to create layers of flavor and this wasn't an exception.

This is the first time I’ve noticed this thread (apparently I’m an old and blind beer nerd), so I’m sure this iconic beer has been put forth many times in the 37 pages captured here, but I had to add to the tally because I absolutely love the beer (it’s on the hoppier side for a barleywine, but that suits my palate), it’s my fridge barleywine at the lake, and I have this cool glass stored in the camper that is tangentially appropriate this week, given the golf across the pond.

    That’s right, I said tangentially.

This beer is an ATF for me because it’s got all the rich malt characteristics associated with the style and a substantial hop bite. I’ll keep buying it every year.

Welcome! Bigfoot is a long time favorite of mine as well, I've got three or more cases of various vintages tucked away in the cellar. I think I'll open up later:thinking_face:
