The two beers I had from SP were draft pours. The VIP session had some bottles being poured but I missed out on those tickets. Not sure how much being draft affected the taste. My favorite pour of the day came from Monkish and it was a draft pour of DB Ancient Futures. That beer absolutely stole the show for me and it wasn't very close at all.

You don't like drinking 40 degree BA pastry stouts?! That's my complaint. You tend to drink them too cold and you have this internal pressure to get to the next pour because of FOMO. They are fun but for me not ideal.

I was very thankful that for this particular fest we had about five hours to casually walk around and sample things. I was with my wife who doesn't really drink beer at all so I wasn't on a mission to try everything being poured. That allowed me to take my time with most beers and made sure to let the darker offerings warm up a bit. It was also helpful that a lot of the "bigger" beers being offered I have already had before so it was easy to skip some to ensure ample time spent trying newer things. The pours were unlimited and typically 3 to 4 ounces as well so it didn't take very long for the beer to warm up.

it is more than just that. every draft pour i had at the SP invitational (first one) was 'off' and i know that because a few of the beers i had draft pours of i was revisiting.

Never said I enjoyed them. That's the FOMO taking the wheel.

Anyone tried the newest batch of Maltvin yet? Curious how the lack of maple barrels changes the experience.

Salem, MA for Halloween or St. Louis for anniversary weekend? Wife and I have visited Side Project a good 5 times together over the years and she said she would rather do Salem this time around because Side Project and drinking stouts isn’t as “fun” as it used to be and she doesn’t care about this stuff anymore. What to do, what to do.

Divorce seems like the best solution here. It would free up more time to spend at Side Project too.

As someone who grew up near there, Salem is the last place I'd want to be on Halloween. It's heavy on the kitsch and just too many damn people for that tiny area.
