I did get over this week and drank some Black Butte and Communist Porter. Black Butte was as good as every, but I was surprised at how good the Communist Porter (chocolate porter). It was really good.

Got to love the name also. Power to the People! or may be Porter for the People!

Don’t have any porter right now but I will be looking for them soon as we cool down. I like

    Bells
    Great Lakes
    Highland oatmeal….not available locally
DC Penn Porter…..is this still around? It was available here but not seen in years
NoDa coco loco…..really good beer, again not available here but my NC hook up can provide

I’m open to try most I see

    Enjoy

    Yes, yes it does…

It’s so rich and full, yet so drinkable and light; nice little bit of hops, so creamy and smooth.

This seems to be especially true in the northeast and east coast. I mean, everything hazy/pastry/smoothie is dominating shelves everywhere, but man, the last couple of years I lived in New York, it was becoming near impossible to find a lot of traditional beer styles. The beer market in the northeast is absolutely inundated by the hype beer styles over everything else. I was fortunate, though, in that porters were still pretty common. Bell's, Founder's, Great Lakes, (Edmund Fitzgerald being my personal favorite) and Yuengling's were still easy enough to find.

Was excited seeing and buying this for the first time in a long white. Far too long, really tasting great with the bitter hops, roast malt and coffee notes coming together in a way it took restraint to post this before finishing the beer.

If I could get Eddy Fitz, that would be the only porter I would really need, with an occasional Anchor porter thrown in for good measure.

Note sure why but every time I've had a Founders Porter it kicks my ass like it's twice the actual 6.5% ABV.

Agreed. I've been drinking Black Butte in Colorado, but I still prefer Eddy Fitz by a slight margin.

...I have fond memories of drinking the base beer from it's earliest iterations, especially when it was produced in Denver...I have no issues with the Maryland Gonzo, I just don't get around to trying and FD beers too often any more, but, saw a 4-pack of this in a local beer emporium and just had to grab it...no regrets, baby...

Great beer, but such a terrible label re-design. So generic looking

Been joining in the Black Butte party. Such a nice beer. Love how drinkable it is on a hot afternoon or on a cold evening.
