    While the linked article says:
"After closing in June of last year, the Hayward bar billed as America’s first brew pub is back pouring its house beers."

Not sure how the Smithsonian measures "most historic" (I guess they're the experts, tho') but most reliable sources put Buffalo Bill's as the third legal brewpub in the US (post-Repeal, obviously), after Bert Grant's Yakima Brewing & Malting Co. and Mendocino Brewing Co. in Hopland, CA, successor in a way of New Albion.

Paging through Grant's book The Ale Master, he doesn't appear to have made the claim but the book lacks an index (I hate that, even if many indexes suck). I guess one can says Buffalo Bill's is the longest surviving brewpub in the US.

I started going to micro breweries and brew pubs in the late 80s in SF Bay Area, but never heard of them (although most of the places that I attended where in the South Bay). I first heard of them when I started attending/participating in SF Beer Week Events about 10-15 years ago. I think that they had a DIPA Tasting Event as part of the week, but I could be making that up.

I doubt that I will make it the reopened version either...

The DIPA festival is at the Bistro in Hayward, pretty near Buffalo Bills iirc. I think that's the only reason I've been to BB, it was convenient.

Thanks! It always looked like a great lineup at the Bistro, but it never works with my schedule.

Is that the Festival that Psychic Advisor trumped Pliny the Elder in?

Yes, last year. But I haven't been to this festival in years. I think beers other than PtE win often.

But it's no knock on PtE and PtY. They still often place and/or win, despite newcomers gunning for them and having more freedom to tweak recipes, having access to newer hop profiles, etc.

To me, the fact that PtE continues to place in modern ipa competitions is proof positive that Pliny is an absolute gold standard

Best mids for sure, hope the brewery can tough it out. Some day they might be as successful as the gs from liquid gravity :kissing_heart:

Maybe they'll reach out to enegren and ask about making a lager :money_mouth:

Eh. I'll be the first to say that Velvet Glow is my favorite Helles-style beer from an American brewer. Admittedly, I've not come across an Enegren Helles yet.

Oh yeah, I was giving him some shit. Russian River makes great lagers and top notch hoppy ales.

I'm guessing you'll find The Lightest One very palatable.

Headed to LA next week for work and Metallica. Most definitely taking the Moorpark/Enegren detour for festivity supplies.
