Hi all, Will be traveling to Berlin in August, meeting up with family there. My aunt normally only drinks champagne, but I’d like to see if she’d be willing to try (and maybe even like) some top-notch lambics, aka the Champagne of Belgium. Where’s the best bottle shop in Berlin to seek out these beers (3 Fonteinen, Cantillon, etc)? [ps. Sorry to be asking about Belgian beers in Germany! Hopefully this doesn’t strike a nerve with any native Germans…]
The Champaigne of the North as it was called by the French. It was very nice, but beers thst thst upset my digestion. I had to try it knowing that going in.
To answer my own question post-travel, several bottle shops & bars had some some lesser (but still good) lambic brands like Tilquin & Oud Beersel. But all the employees looked at me like I was an asshole when I asked if they had Cantillon or 3 Fontenein. Until one guy said “try the Muted Horn.” And sure enough, there I found an enormous selection of lambics, including several different 3 Fontenein options (no Cantillon though). Quite happy I did.
@WhatANicePub I’d have to agree with Sigmund. I tried Schneeeule on tap at the Muted Horn while there. Not bad, but doesn’t come close to the best lambics. Unless maybe Schneeeule has some special, more expensive barrel-aged stuff that they only sell/serve at their taproom?...
Schneeeule is not a Lambic brewer, they make traditional Berliner Weiße with brett cultures. It's not really something you can compare at all, although their Berliner Weiße is excellent.
