Jacks abby collab fest of both worlds
...clear light gold appearance with a lasting white head.
...carbonation is just a hair below average with a medium body. It all adds up a decent feel.
....aroma is a nice mix of cereal, malt, grain, with malty yeasty bread.
...taste has a very mild sweetness, cereal, grain, with a grainy maltiness that lingers.
...really nice beer that I couldn't find anywhere.
    Many thanks @jzeilinger [IMG]

Skofouke from Tired Hands. A hoppy barleywine compliments of @DIM.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours an opaque orange/light brown with minimal head. The nose is hop dominated. Both pine and citrus peel notes come through for me. This is accompanied by notes of apple, grass, pineapple, and a bit of leather.

The taste is really nice. Definitely a hop monster here. Maybe more than Bigfoot. Dominated by pine needles and grapefruit peel. Very slight hint of caramel, along with leather, grass, and a touch of malts. This really comes through as a hoppy barleywine, and it's possibly even a bit too hoppy for me. Could definitely mellow out over time.

Super dry on the finish. Aftertaste is citrus peel. Really fun beer - thanks to Dan for this one!

[IMG] This is my 20,000 post and if most of you know anything about SawDog505 he goes BIG or goes home. I felt this was the beer for this occasion. Barleywine was the beer that hooked me over 13 years ago. Review time.

Poured into a 13 oz Teku glass not sure when it was bottle, thinking over 6 months ago. Pours a very attractive cloudy amber red with a 2 plus finger sticky off white head, that leaves thin streaks of lace, with excellent retention. 4.75

Aroma is brown sugar, toffee, caramel, dark fruity esters, and a little warming alcohol. 4.5

Taste follows brown sugar, toffee, caramel, dates, figs, and a little hint of alcohol in the lingering lip smacking finish. 4.5

Mouthfeel is way above average, maybe a tad dry, the perfect amount of life, and at 9.7% a complex and bold beer, that goes down far too easy. 4.5

Overall this is a special Barleywine in my opinion. Very complex and insanely tasty. A must if you are a fan of the style. 4.5

Just as a side note Sauvignon Blanc- particularly New Zealand SB- often exhibits big grapefruit, gooseberry, and a melange of other flavors, depending on terroir.

I can finally join in on NBW after spending 15 hours yesterday taking in the spectacle that is Iowa State-Iowa football. Watching these teams try to out-ugly each other drives me to drink!

Couple from New Glarus this week, starting with the Wisconsin Belgian Red:
Appearance: Dark red, good sized pink head.

    Smell: Cherries, tartness.

Taste: Nice sweet cherry flavor with a bit of tartness, a little syrupy feel.

Overall: Picked up at the source in New Glarus, I'm not a fruit beer guy, but this was quite tasty. The cherry flavor was more on the sweet side than tart or sour, so that was a plus in my book. Might even have to get a 4 pack sometime!

    Raspberry Tart
    [IMG]
Appearance: Dark ruby, good light pink head.

Smell: Raspberry and pretty strong tartness.

Taste: Tart and acidic with the raspberries in the background. Mix of tart and raspberries in the finish. Light bodied.

Overall: The other mainstay fruit beer from New Glarus, Raspberry Tart follows its name and provides a tart raspberry experience. I would have preferred more raspberry and less tart, but oh well. I prefer the Belgian red.

Good Morning NBS/nbw and thanks @Roy_Hobbs for hosting this week.
Its grey and muggy here in WMass, a week of oppressive heat turned to two days of rain and damaging tstorms. Spent yesterday in Gloucester at the Cape Ann Museum seeing a lovely Edward Hopper show, great time.
Todays offering is from our dear friends in Greensboro Vt
Another Once Upon a Time in Denmark, this one Biscotti.
A big , slightly boozy, take on Italian bisquit. The offering is bold and takes time to explore.

    Cheers all

Poured from the 500 ml bottle ino the test glass.
A - Dark cocoa color, gentle carbonation feeds the mocha colored ring.
S - Vanilla, almond, bakers chocoalte jump out of the glass, batting second, light roast coffee, a bit of caramel candy.
T - First impression is barrel driven with the vanilla, mingling with char. As the offering opens up the almond, makes its way forward. Coffee is the next phase. I find it interesting that the individual elements present when cold. As the offering warms, they come together quite well.
M - Thick, hefty, fully coats the palate, semi sweet start, manages to avoid tipping the sweet scales, the center has a drying movement, with a pleasant bittering. Finish is abrupt, with yes a Biscotti linger. Every exhale has a whisp of alcohol
O - A fine "how do you do?" Big stout, with a broad range, not to sweet, adjuncts applied deftly, yield a complex sipper.
From start to finish an absolute delight

Looking forward to all the cool beers you’ll be drinking the next few weeks. Enjoy and safe travels to you, and soon, the mrs.

Hope damage was minimal around you @SABERG we had some bad ones roll through but our little pocket of South Jersey dodged the bad stuff this time around.

We can all finally embrace early fall temps within the week!!

"16oz can "Canned On 06/23/23" poured into a "Wobble" glass shows a clear, bright, yellow-gold body with a 1/4" cap of white foam leaving sparse lacing.

Strong fruity aromas waft from the glass backed by pine resin and biscuit malt.

Flavors match with citrus and stone fruits joining pine resin in an easy drinking, and familiar taste.

Mouthfeel hints at stickiness, but remains clean and full.

Overall a solid example and dangerously drinkable."
A lot of beers can taste similar, but for some reason I found it odd that this new to me beer was familiar. I don't know to what to attribute that, and I'm sure it doesn't matter.

Thanks, Dave. Hopefully I can get to another of your gifts today.

    Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest 6%

Poured from a twelve ounce can, the body pours a clear amber-yellow. Nice fluffy white head and good lacing.

Nose is breast malt and very light hops. Taste follows nose with a little more hops, but not as aggressive as I have read in some reviews. More of a normal festbier than I expected, which is good.

Overall an easy drinking festbier and isn't that what is wanted?

I am a fan of PNW Sauvignon Blanc but every New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc I have tried (granted only a handful) have not been appealing for me. I use the word "herbaceous" to describe those New Zealand wines.

The hop variety that has a reputation for producing an aroma/flavor of gooseberry is Nelson Sauvin. I personally refuse to use this hop in my homebrewing since every commercial beer that has featured this hop has been unappealing for my palate.

    Cheers!

First (new) one for me today

    Bewilder - Chick Flip (2023)

    No canning date.

Purchased from the brewery cooler for $3

Poured at fridge temp into a pilsner glass.

Pours as clean and clear golden as I'd expect with a tightly packed 1F head that settled quickly. 4

Aroma was a delicious mix of mixed berry and light malt grain. 3.75

Lightly piney hops, some mixed berry again. Grainy and slight grassiness. 4

Carbo is on the higher/prickling side fairly drying and a lingering hop oils finish. 4

Overall an unexpected surprise and very delicious summer crusher. 4

Two comments about Saturday posts before diving in:
    • @JackHorzempa - When I see Phantasm Powder or other gimmicks I pass, as the ones I’ve tried taste like Splenda or other chemicals they put in diet pop. Give me Citra and Mosaic straight, no chaser, and I'm a happy beer drinker.
    • Love the Wet Hop Away Days / Dave review @jonphisher ! I hope to come across a few here this season.
Hello everyone and welcome to New Beer Sunday #968. As promised the second of two from this great local suburban brewery.

    Roaring Table RTB Maibock

    Can Notes:
Purchased refrigerated at the brewery 5/14/23 and this can remained refrigerated until today. 16 oz canned 5/2, 6.7% ABV German-Style Lager. Hops Mittelfruh and Saphir. Brewed and canned by Roaring Table Brewing, Lake Zurich, Illinois.

    Appearance:
Poured 2/3 of the can into a chalice. Golden tan slightly unfiltered base, off white head lingers briefly before covering the middle top base and clinging around the rim with no lacing. Heavy carbonation. 3.75

    Aroma:
Malted barley heavy, backed by white bread, floral notes and lemongrass. The barley is intimidating for my personal palate, but the other flavors are saying "hey, this will be OK." 3.75

    Taste:
Malted barley comes on heavy, getting slight pilsner flavor notes. The white bread is here, but the remaining aroma notes are stifled like Edith Bunker. As I settle in, it's pretty much malted barley, but the overt sweetness seems somewhat palatable, like a frog getting used to boiling water. 3.5

    Mouthfeel:
Fully creamy body, slight fizzy carbonation adding to the mix. Drinks heavy, perhaps a bit above the ABV. Sweet for my palate, reminds me of ginger ale a bit beyond the flavor. Malt lingering in the finish. 4.0

    Overall:
I believe this beer is brewed to style, and would recommend this to people who like Maibocks and malt heavy beers. Having gone through 6 Maibock beer reviews, I chalk this style up into the not for me category, appreciating hop forward or at least more of a balanced hop/malt treatment with my aversion to sweetness. Scoring this based on merit as best I can. 3.75

@steveh - Really enjoyed the Pot o Black Transient Collaboration reviewed yesterday.
