Isn't the beer in question around 3% ABV, though? We're talking about old English beer. It was probably something along the line of mild ales. That's a lot of liquid, but doable. We're not talking about 9% American Double IPAs here; craft beer alcohol consumption nowadays is a whole different ballgame. If you're drinking eight imperial pints of the majority of beers nowadays, that's a serious problem.

There are still places (such as the Czech Republic) that keep up the morning drinking tradition, but those days are long gone in Britain.

Yup, this seemed true when I just went.

i grew up in England, and worked in Central London from 1974-1983. It was considered normal to pop down to the pub for lunch and a couple of pints. If it was your birthday, it was accepted that you would be on a 3 hour lunch break. (and do very little work afterwards) I moved to the US in 1983, and quickly found that this was not going to be accepted. As mentioned above, those days are long gone in Britain as well.

I know a lot of people in Germany that do this now. Lunch is a time to go have a pint or two. Of course these are lighter German beers, so nobody is getting drunk. And nobody ever drives. Just hop back on the tram or bike.

Does getting your tongue pierced add to the enjoyment of drinking tea?

    Cheers!
