My hops are about ready for harvest and I have been picking these bugs off for a few days. I haven’t seen them until now. Anyone know what they are?

Im pretty sure that is a lady bug larvae. If accurate, dont pick em off.
They eat aphids and other pest species.
    Ladybug beetle are beneficial insects.

@sulldaddy, I think you are correct. My wife looked it up. Asian lady beetle larvae. At least they are beneficial!

We always have a mess of those beetles this time of year, but it’s the first time I noticed the larvae so I thought they were a different bug. Now I know.

As a side note we grow Blue Lake Bush green beans next to our hop bed. Our Aphids seem to prefer the green beans over the hops. We never see them touch the hops but they will be infested in the green beans. Usually by the time the green beans are done putting out is when they show up so it’s a win win. We pick the hops, cut the green beans and plant kale or greens in its place.

@Jasonja1474, that’s interesting. I planted coriander with the hops. Might have to try the beans next year. I haven’t seen any aphids so far.

As a trained (but non-practicing) entomologist, I can confirm this is a ladybird beetle larvae. Beneficial, especially for consuming potential hop pests like aphids, mites, and others.
