    Finally opened this

A wonderful small brewery making wonderful beer. This is an Imperial Stout made using a recipe from 1850 Aged in Whisky Barrels and then some vanilla thrown into it.
    Thanks for this @CarolinaCardinals
By now the the vanilla is muted ( a major plus) and the base is shining bright as it should

@beergoot BIFed this my way and I am super excited to try it. This was such a hot ticket back when I traded regularly that I didn't ever try to get. All I had to was wait over a dozen years and now it's mine!

I haven't tried many of this type of beer to make a fair comparison, but I can see why this has received so much love. Hole-a mole-a sauce this is tasty. Up front the bitter baker's chocolate is accented nicely by earthy vanilla, mild pepper, and faint spice. The chilli kicks up significantly heading into the finish, pretty much right into my heat sweet spot. Just a great beer that I am so glad to try, thanks beergoot!

...glad to share the Hunaphu love, Dan...since I didn't think I could share any Hair of The Dog with you that you hadn't (and likely still) have...

...I've got one 2022 Don (I think that's the year) and then three from this year left...wish I would have had a chance to try some earlier releases...I greatly appreciate the heads-up you sent a while back about some of the HoTD beers still on sale...

There was only one previous release, 2018. I tried it at 3 years old and it wasn't nearly as good as the other 2 imo.

    I think I have 2 2022 and 3.5 2023 left.

And no problem, I love spending other people's money:money_mouth:

...jumpin' Jesus on a pogo stick...!!!...have you seen what HoTD is asking for their Don bottles now...???...$50 for the 2022 and $35 for the 2023...I mean, they were pricey even when I bought 'em, but would be hard pressed to spend the coin now...

I think the 23's were always $35? That's what I bought my 22's at as well.

Only tried Damon once, what a great stout, living room sipper for sure. Thanks for bringing a delicious memory of an amazing stout back into my thoughts.

Wow how cool is that! I wonder how closely they tried to imitate 1850's brown malt? I love trying old recipes.

I read that the head brewer at Zebulon does it in the traditional manner using Kilning methods just like the 17 and 1800s.

    How awesome is that?!?

Pig Minds Joe Daddy Imperial Coffee Stout, a real, truly sessionable stout at a paltry 8%. Good stuff!
