New Image's #life unplugged, a collaboration with Alesong. The last couple I've tried from NI have been stellar, hoping this one aged 6 months in cognac finished bourbon barrels is as good.

This is okay but falls pretty far short of what I hoped it would be. Bought 1 for a gift, not sure I'll send it out though. There is a little toffee up front but a vaguely vinous and strongly perfumed heat brushes it aside. I get a little brown sugar and vanilla heading into the finish before a too potent raw oak note closes things out. The body is a bit thin and the carbonation is light.

As this warms the heat mellows a bit, some cinnamon and more hints of nuanced fruit emerge. Better, but this still isn't what I hoped for. Just too much wood and heat.

Continuing to empty the cellar shelves to create space for the BSBIF entrants Ive got incoming from Cali! this is a trade from the Impy Stout king himself @Resistance88 thank you for the hook up homie!
El Segundo and Horus Big Ole Barleywine 2.5 2022 vintage. 15.2% ABV!! woohoo!

    onto my review:
Sampling a 2022 can of this collab with Horus. Date stamp is 10/04/2022. Pouring at cellar temp into my trusty snifter.
The beer pours a clear mahogany color and reveals garnet highlights in front of a light source. A fizzy , bubbly beige head of .5 cm foams up and is gone almost immediately after the pour.
Only tiny wispy islands remain in center of my glass.
Aroma is deep malts with brown sugar, raisins, some charred wood and molasses and a bit of sweet whiskey. Definitely a little fusol booziness in the nose too. Hops absent.
First sip reveals a fairly thick texture and a little stickiness. Very fine and prickly carbonation that is pretty sharp on my tongue. The beer does coat my tongue on each sip too and there is definitely some warmth in here.
Flavor is sweet brown sugar, some molasses and a good bit of whiskey. Some raisin buried and hints of toffee too. dont get any real wooden notes and hops are totally absent again.
But I do get warming booze all the way down my gullet with each sip. Woo this one is gonna take a bit to empty!
Really enjoy this big bruiser of a barleywine!

I was damn tempted to grab the Quad Oaked but couldn't justify it. At least I have the Barleywine/Stout BIF going to somewhat offset my FOMO

when i went to the brewery i ordered this on tap and they poured me 12oz ... I'm never one to turn down a generous pour but man!! I actually complained about how ridiculous the serving size was cuz i wanted to have other beers after it .
No serving size was listed, but on my previous visits they were always 6oz.

Hopw you were able to walk straight after this one

Parallax from Single Hill in Yakima, WA. American style barleywine aged in Westland Distilling American single-malt whiskey barrels

Poured from a can at fridge temp, but it has warmed for a good 5-10 minutes so far. Pours a murky orange with a bit of off-white head. The barrel comes through on the nose pretty immediately. Boozy bourbon, along with some citrus notes. Orange peel, melon, a nice floral note, and a hint of toffee (although it took a bit for this to come out).

The taste is fantastic. Sweeter than the nose suggested. Now getting tons of Werther's caramel candy, along with vanilla, bourbon, and an ever-so-soft citrus peel note. Also getting notes of honey and a plums. Really love the taste. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, and the aftertaste is sweet candy.

I'm really surprised how different the nose and taste were on this beer. It's not often that I'm completely shocked by a taste after smelling something, but that's what happened here.

You do plenty of marketing for them, so they should give you VIP pours.

    Big Bertha - Kuhnhenn

It is more of a very dark walnut with dark mahogany highlights. Only a token amount of carbonation that flashes over and is gone in an instant after the pour. A thin film produces no legs. Wow! The aroma grabs one’s attention from a distance. Intense raisins and dates, followed by black licorice. Sweet malt has a light char and molasses as it warms. The flavors follow closely although the charred malt adds some bitterness. Licorice builds into the drawn-out finish. Warmth adds peat and a progression of earthy dark fruit. Full body, soft, smooth, plush texture. 12%abv nibbles and is mildly warm, on par with the faint prickle of delicate carbonation. Great chilled, spectacular as it approaches room temp.

An excellent choice for this cold, wet Autumn afternoon with a good book. Only regret is the lack of a crackling fire by my side. Gracie has decided to cuddle up on my lap, which is a decent consolation.
