Does that suggest Westvleteren might increase production and expand distribution?

No way. Main focus is still on Ora et Labora.
They are just copying Westmalle in order for the monks to have some religious tranquility.

Some Belgian Beer News for Xmas:

    1. "New" breweries I had never heard about before:
    1) Karrelees: looks promising; a retired person making his dream come true, his own brewery.
    2) De Coureur: quite modest
    3) Batteliek: a micro brewery close to Mechelen, in a former church

    2. Brewery De Kievit (trappist brewery in Zundert) is releasing a jubilee version for their 10th anniversary - a 75 cl bottle with an image of gale on the label, the ingredient in all Zundert beers.

    3. Special attention to a brewery in West Flanders producing marvelous beers: Science of Sour Ale Brewering

I tasted and liked their XII Flemish Red Ale.

    4. Brewery De Leite is celebrating its 15th anniversary: "In life, you need to realize your dreams."

    5. De Jordaan, a small beer bar in Antwerp, stopped after 9 years. It was originating, however, from 1919. Hopefully, there will be a takeover.

    6. In memoriam: Fred Waltmann passed away a few months ago. To commemorate him, OBER, the organizers from Kerstbierfestival in Essen (Belgium), created Cuvée Waltman. Here's to you, Fred!
