Don't hate. I am an SJ purist too, but this is drunkn inspiration while drinking Revolution variants & chatting with friends. You know that Revolution would make this an incredible BA BW that's well balanced and perfect.

Crazy, it was the first I had and it really hit me in the right place. For me it was all chocolate and oak, not acrid at all. Unbalanced maybe but a lot of these one offs are. I could be wrong, but I believe canned Thundertakers were blends so I did go in expecting a pure “very old” rye stout.

Totally agreed, I’d flip em around easy. The Thundertaker was probably the ‘worst’ I had today between Half Acre and Rev. it was definitely apart from the others so I can see why some people might favor it. (I was the goober in the blue FOBAB shirt if y’all spotted me lol, I also went to lunch at HA then to Rev a bit after 2pm)

    1/2: Money Barrel and Lumberstruck
    3: Boss VSOJ
    4: Thundertaker.

One of the first times I ever had a French pressed beer was with Straight Jacket. A buddy of mine who I was just meeting for the first time was hunched over in the corner of the bar at Hoppin' Frog with a bag of coconut in his actual jacket, and his own French press cradled between his legs under the counter. HoFro used to offer tons of excellent guest draft beers, and he was taking draft pours of SJ and French pressing them through his own home toasted coconut. It was revelatory. He swears by coconut and barleywine, pretty much refusing to have one without the other.

I personally thought it was an excellent release in terms of variant quality. It seems they have a rotating special option as well which was fun. DBVSOD was honestly killer, and I regret not buying a 4 pack, but what a beer. In terms of variants...

Lumber > Money barrel > Thundertaker

They also were pouring Ten Year Beer which was a fantastic treat.

Overall though, everything we had was amazing and Revolution continues to be the best brewery in town for BA beers.

I salute your adventurous spirit. If I see someone at a bar hunched over in the corner playing with something between their legs I get my bill and go elsewhere.

They had “Boss VSOJ” at open and “Destroyed by the Empire” after that. I think they were burning through the last of the FOBAB kegs, and I’m jot going to turn down optimally stored rare BA beer.

While y'all enjoy the new toys, had a can of Dread & Breakfast and it still blows my mind the 'breakfast' flavors they were able to impart here using only barrels (apart from coffee). Figure most have tried this beer already but if not, do yourself a favor and pick up a 4pk when dropping by for the latest release.

Three world class variants today. The best Rev's ever had, in my opinion, and I don't think it's close. Not surprising for two reasons.

    1) the general upward trajectory of the Deep Wood program
    2) their were NO ADJUNCTS in any of the beers, just beer, barrel and time

With all that said...Money Barrel was tops, Boss Lumberstruck was second and VSO Thundertaker was third for me. And for many DW releases, the Thundertaker would have been #1.

Lastly...Marty and Rev might not have hyped up DB VSOD enough. Quite possibly the best canned (or bottled) Deep Wood beer ever.

I’m personally not taking DBVSOD over a VSOJ, but they’re different animals and can happily coexist.

Got there at 9 for an hour. Both Boss Lumberstruck and Money Barrel were still on. Nod to the Money for me, but they were both excellent. Very much enjoying a Cold Time at home right now.

personally, I’ve disliked every variation of straight jacket that has added an adjunct, so I’m definitely out on this lol.

Mine Shaft Gap is complex enough to stand up to adjuncts imo. I also think MSG is a 100 beer so don’t know that I’d be tempted to tempt fate with adjuncts. I’m the only person in America that wasn’t won over by SJ so am fine with any adjuncts they want to add to make that acceptable to my taste buds.

There is a homebrew operation that I assume is based in Chicago that takes Rev/Goose Island and a few other local breweries and adds adjuncts and new labels. It's called Beer,Barrel, Basement. I've never had any of them but it sounds like what you want. I think there's a facebook group you could look into

I am not totally following what you're asking. This probably isn't exactly what you mean but if you're asking about having a bunch of different package options on Shopify, we can do that but it messes with the inventory of these beers. It's easier to do this on a product that isn't going to be an immediate sellout, but I'm guessing you want it for something like DBVSOD. I don't think we have a way for multiple items (combos) to deplete inventory of one master product, so each combo has to have an exact quantity set aside for it. Shopify probably has plug-ins to solve for that, but anytime we add a plug-ins it makes more things that can go wrong for us who aren't e-commerce gurus.

One thing we could do is allocate X number "1 one of each combos", "2 of each combos", and "3 of each combos" each with their own inventory, like 100 of each. We did this once or twice before the Shopify days. That could lead to something like singles of DB VSOD selling out, while combos are still available. Then people will just complain about that. I don't hate it at all, it's good for us, it just adds more variables to the equation.

Okay, I just can't here. This is next level kinda fucked up IMO. Who brings a French press and their own ingredients to a brewery tap room and does this?! If your like actual friends with the owners (not just "friends") or an employee and it's a thing that developed over time and is sanctioned, fine. No judgement whatsoever there. But if you're just going rogue at rando taprooms with your French press, I'm about to throw my back out with the eye roll I'm about to do. Literally a walking DDB meme that needs ti be made if he hasn't already. Does old boy bring his own glassware too?! Inquiring minds...
