Sometimes I think I've gone too far down the craft beer rabbit hole when I see an alarm set on my phone for a specific release time I don't wanna miss or I look at my credit card statement (thanks Side Project) but then I hear that there's a dude sneaking a bag of coconut into a bar and I don't feel so bad about myself.

LMFAO he is a wild one. And I think he said he learned this from either DDB or Firestone Walker, something in relation to the two, I don't really know. But yeah he was being stealthy about it. That said it was a semi-private event atmosphere. They still had customers but it was kind of one of those free for all situations where things weren't the norm. HoFro is typically very buttoned up when it comes to policy.

    YOLO!!

Suddenly I don’t feel so bad about telling my kids to stop playing with their fruit by putting it their milk.

Love the response! Thanks. Everyone thinks there is always an easy solution, and I understand that it isn’t. But, without feedback it is hard to know exactly where and why.

More about understanding the whys than about “will you do this”. Not asking for that. Thanks!

I put it in my Google calendar. The best version of me even puts the link to the release page in the reminder sometimes. It's kinda like my digital bag of taproom coconut. Just in case I have a better vision than the brewer for what the beer should be.

I initially dismissed the idea as too complex but after dwelling on it I could see the appeal of a limited combo that provides something you can’t get otherwise, say a thoughtful mixed 4pack. I got an extra DBVSOD but I would have been tempted by a combo that included say one of each of the last 3 Deth’s Tar and a can of Dread & Breakfast.

Maybe a logistical nightmare for Rev, but could be a win-win by depleting some old inventory and offering a unique option to someone like me who would like some older cans but not necessarily 3-4 extra 4packs of them.

They still had all 3 exclusives on when I got there today shortly after open. I have them:

    1. Money Barrel
    2. VO Thundertaker
    3. VSO Lumberstruck

All were outstanding, but as is often the case with these taproom only release one-(or more)-off variants, these mostly tended to skew a bit heavy in one direction. While the money barrel hit the sweet-spot more than the others for me, the dry oakiness definitely came through strongest for me here. VO Thundertaker was heavier on the rye spice to me than the canned releases, which I would actually favor over this. And while I wasn't as big a fan of canned Lumberstruck as others likely were, I found the VSO take to be more enjoyable than it while leaning a touch sweet for my idiotic palate.

Anyway, can't wait to dig into DBVSOD and the annuals, albeit from my canned supply, hopefully this weekend.

    Cheers!

I'm going to either do a cellar review or a side by side before Thanksgiving with the December 2020 DB VSOD release to see how they compare / 2020 held up. I really enjoyed the 2020 fresh.

I don't really do the variant release pours anymore, but I highly recommend their Witches Cloak Baltic Porter. Their collaboration Lager with Goldfinger was a solid Silver medal among the new to me beers I enjoyed Thursday/Friday.

Had my DW pick earlier today (actually this release and the last one. Rev's 30 day window rules. Thanks Rev!). Decided, wtf gotta go with DBVSOD, right. This is worthy of Marty/Rev's hype, no doubt to me. The flavors are bursting while the liquid is in your mouth but what really impresses upon me is after it's swallowed. Marty made mention of it in the tasting video on their social media. He said something to the effect of as soon as you swallow it, the oak and alcohol soluble flavors and aromatics take over. And this was spot on for me and what really stood out to me on my first can. Looking forward to revisiting it.

I cannot recall the 2020 version but this has to be levels better. I cannot disagree with @GuyFawkes with this possibly being their best packaged BA beer. Trying to restrain myself these days on beer purchasing but kinda wish I had nabbed another 4pk.

Maybe I'm just an old man shouting at clouds, but their labeling always seems cease and desist worthy to me.

Wait, so they take existing GI, Rev, and other brewery beers, adjunct them, then repackage them with their own label?

European blenders have been doing that for years minus the adjunct part.

You can look up coconut boss jacket on untappd and check the homebrewer page out yourself. It seems pretty harmless to me given that they aren't trying to take credit for the original recipe and from the little I know they aren't charging huge prices for anything. My friend got one as an extra in a trade.

Isn't that more a business relationship though? Contracting either wort or lambic producers then blending or aging it in your own casks?

Will be in town for work on Wed. Anyone have a sense of how long these will last on tap? Hoping to sample at least one or two if possible.

Yup. Currently several dozen beers on Untapped, all with very familiar looking labels.

I thought it was like a communal home brewing type club that just shares the stuff they adjunct. If they are charging for the beer that would violate the law, right?

I have no idea if there is any money exchanging hands. I didn't mean to accuse anyone of breaking any laws.
