He also asked specifically for fruit suggestions

And I offered some. But it is so tiresome to hear the gatekeeping about what is allowed for people on a beer forum to wish for when it comes new flavors, even if they’re leaning pastry. Half Acre can do both and no one complains when Benthic comes out once a year. Not all of us are P3 Ambassadors with access to those types of BA offerings year round and maybe, (just maybe) it’s ok to hope for Rev to have both an amazing non adjunct BA lineup and also at the same time offer some rotation of well integrated multiple adjunct BA beers as well, in the vein of Bottle Logic. I know my wallet would greatly prefer if Rev offered both and I didn’t have to drop $40 for a 500ml bottle to scratch an itch whenever leftover Bottle Logic offerings make their way here a few times a year.

Since you suggested a berry stout though we won’t probably see eye to eye…

People just started conjuring up stuff though. The question was about fruit. People can dream up whatever they want, but the pastry bois shouldn't be surprised when others say, "Hey, no one really asked that question."

Benthic is what put HA on the map for BA beers though. That's not really the case with Rev. Things like SJ, Ryeway, Deth and Cafe, and later the VSO line really put it into overdrive for their barrel program recognition. Not to mention the revamp to 12 oz cans, putting money into improving their process and product, and dropping the cost per certainly didn't hurt things either.

Let’s not forget that pastry is about saturation of flavors rather than simply the inclusion of an adjunct. There are pastry stouts out there that are single adjunct stouts. Using a second adjunct (e.g. chocolate or vanilla with oranges) to offer balance does not a pastry stout make.

That’s actually what we’re all talking about, the use of a deft hand. If anyone was going to make an Orange or banana stout with nuance and subtlety, it would be rev. But, an orange or banana stout without something to help temper those and offer balance is likely not something I think would have wide appeal. Or, maybe I just mean to say that the beer w(c)ould be better by using a deft hand with a complimenting adjunct vs not. Still not a pastry stout just because it conjures up images of chocolate covered orange candies or banana bread, simply because of a complimenting adjunct.

So is no one taking tomato, potato or onion suggestions seriously? Mark my words, you will regret passing up this opportunity.

How about peanut butter and pickle then?

Side note.. I'm not sure I would put P3 in a close category to Rev or Half Acre. Their BA beers have no barrel. Its straight pastry.

BCBS already did tomato in 2015 and it did NOT go well.

No matter what Rev brews next year, rest assured it will be good. Just as next year's Rev thread will be as good as this one. Voted BA's best thread three years running. #fanboyFUPAGod4Lyfe

It seems I struck a nerve and I'm truly sorry for any perception of gatekeeping. Clearly a forum like this is going to offer a wide variety of opinions. My intended point was to highlight the departure of suggestions from what I have found successful in the past and that I (not speaking for all) was getting nervous. My favorites are certainly different than others - I hate Billy, didn't care for Dark Mode. I even have a sweet tooth, as I really liked the maple, strawberry, and honey jackets. But at the top of my list are non-adjuncted offerings like Mineshaft (please please please make a VSO!), VSOJ, Thundertaker, and the like.

But that's, like, only my opinion, man.

I was specifically addressing the fact that responses discussing vanilla, nuts, etc was an answer to a question that was not asked.

I was not discussing the validity of pastry stouts or whether it would make sense.

The need for an over the top pastry stout comes not from Rev being deficient in their world class offerings, it simply stems from a desire to see their skilled program attempt at making a popular style they have thus far shied away from. We love their barrel program and it’s conservative excellence, let’s see them get silly once.

Marty has been very clear that no matter what, they will always strive for balance. So don't hold your breath on this.

Also, I chatted with him at the Hopleaf briefly, and he was very much interested in getting MORE traditional in their approach. Not sure marketing / sales feels that way, so I'm glad that DB VSOD sold out so quickly as I prefer no adjuncts overall.

Isn’t the MORE tradition for the head brewer to leave and start his own P3?
The thing about balance is you start with a little and keep adding until balance is found. No reason why they can’t have a balanced hazelnut sundae stout.

I know this is poking fun, but that was the whole point I what I was saying. We know Rev isn’t going to go into pastry territory, so if the careful addition of a small amount of cacao nibs with orange makes the deth by orange more balanced and enjoyable, why are we yelling at the sky?
