Very cool story other than the cultural appropriation of “Haus”.

I like the “Haus” moniker, reminds me of a german style beer hall with the long tables. Maybe I just didn’t catch the sarcasm fully lol.

 

Are they German?

 

They clearly identify themselves as a Black owned brewery. I’m guessing Haus is a nod to German brewing traditions (although judging from the website, they don’t brew traditional German beers). Still, seems like a weird thing to get bent out of shape about, given how often white owned craft breweries appropriate from Black American culture.

I mean , it’s not really hard to find a craft brewery referencing an aspect of black culture , for example hip hop or reggae in the name of a beer. The catalog of mikerphone , interboro , revision all come to mind.

 

Yeah, not really the same IMO. Mikerphone makes beer geared towards music themes of all genres.

 

Banging Gavel in Tinley Park seems to (finally) be having their grand opening on 12/14. Looks really nice after all the remodeling they've done to the place and it's right off the Metra Tinley Park stop, not far from Brothership/Soundgrowler/Hailstorm/Flipside.

If you can’t find a plethora of examples of white-owned breweries appropriating non-white* culture, then you’re beyond help.

*not just black

Crazy that this is like the 3rd brewery in Batavia. They really are replacing bars.
