Saison D'Epeautre from Brasserie de Blaugies
Intriguing aroma of citrus and green pepper. Warm and malty with a lemon tang. Pleasing cereal taste like Cream of Wheat plus a bright pear finish. Modest yeasty zip but notable for not being as overly phenolic as so many Belgian-style brews are. Overall this is an especially quaffable and friendly sort of Saison. As well as being a bargain compared to so many American brews.

For someone who enjoys Cantillon iambics, I would recommend you focus on the optimal audience rather than the optimal age. They are good young, mid, old. Although I would respect the expired date, as they do fall off, IMO, past that.

But the point is the differences in age, for me, are far less interesting than sharing it with the right people.

This is a great Tripel. I had high hopes with these two breweries and they did well...Spicey herbs, green grape and nicely carbonated...winner

Val-Dieu Winter Ale. Notes of clove, banana, faint caramel & a hint of winter spices. A great, creamy mouthfeel as well. Very tasty.

Waaaiiit… don’t get seduced by Untappd confusion!

That beer is a stout. The brewer calls it a dark ale but they enter it into competitions as a stout. They added “quadruple” to the label more recently. Terms like double, triple, etc. are used in brewing cultures besides Belgium, and have been applied to stout in England.

Cool. Reading your post about it, it sounds like you are describing a stout. It’s also brewed with licorice and aged on oak.

This is tough. I have a few bottles of Sang Bleu and it's tasting fantastic right now. It's a fairly new release (only 2 batches), so nobody knows how it will age. It's an experiment. It's tough if you only have a single bottle. In that case, sooner is better.

Rigor Mortis Abt from Brasserie Dieu du Ciel! - a Belgian quad. I tell you, breweries in Quebec know what they are doing when it comes to Belgian beers!

Poured from fridge temp. Pours a nice dark brown with light tan head. Nose is full of toffee and dark fruits. Figs and prunes mostly. Getting some nice milk chocolate notes. There is a slight metallic note, but it's not off putting. Really nice.

The taste is absolutely fantastic. Rich toffee, prunes, figs, dates, blackberries, molasses, charred wood, Belgian yeast, and a bit of black licorice. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and sweet on the after taste. Wonderful beer overall.

I look forward to hearing what you think! Mine was bottled a year ago. Wondering if you have a fresher batch?

Bottled 11/24/22 so...nope. Sitting on a room temperature shelf when I found it too. However, I don't worry about this as much with a Quadrupel.

No hate or disrespect to anyone who loves this beer but I've never gotten it. For some reason this beer has never clicked for me. I'm a veteran Quad/BSDA fan, I've loved them for almost as long as I've been drinking beer, and I've never been able to find this beer appealing. I'd love thoughts on this. Am I the only one?

One of my wife's favorite beers. Craft Ale House tapped a keg for her birthday one year, and we took a growler on vaca with us.

They sometimes have it on tap at a local Belgian pub, but otherwise I only see it in Belgium. That's where this bottle was from.

@Beersnake1 told no lies. This beer is FANTASTIC. I got brown sugar, caramel & plum notes in the nose. The mouthfeel was creamy & velvet-y, and I got raisin, caramel, leather & plum on the palate. World class.
