When I was at Cantillon a few weeks ago, a guy at the counter said s'thing interesting: the only fruit geuze that ages nicely, is dark fruit geuze (including Kriek). Maybe Sang Bleu also.

Just noticed this from the brewery notes on this beer: "This beer is at its best only after it has aged for six months."

I WOULD like to try a fresher version for a side-by-side, though...

I didn't see that on the bottle! Interesting! I agree - it sounds like it would be interesting to try a fresh bottle, but perhaps an older bottle as well.

Wasn't on the bottle...but I found it on several beer websites when researching the beer. I assume that verbiage originally came from the brewery but I could obviously be mistaken.

EDIT: the whole enchilada. Boldness is mine, which shows they don't even sell it until it's about 5 month sold based on the bottling date.

Strong brown ale inspired by the beer brewed by Belgian Trappist monks. Very little bitterness, this beer has intense malty and sweet flavours, mixed with the taste of chocolate and caramel. It presents complex red fruit and spice flavours due to the type of yeast that is used during the brewing process. This beer is at its best only after it has aged for six months. The Rigor Mortis are complex beers designed and brewed with patience and care in the tradition of the great Belgian Abbey beers. Rigor Mortis Abt is brewed only once a year, and is sold in April until stocks last.

A classic here. Westmalle Trappist Tripel. Lovely feel. Plush, fruity, gentle spice notes. Has a voluminous flavor yet remains elegant. Cheers!

Love this one as well. It's the time of year when I gravitate towards Belgian beers. Got several lined up, but need to get over COVID first :slight_frown:

Oh man! Sorry to hear that brother. Rest up to the max. When you feel right your beers might taste weird. My taste was off for a bit after I contracted it. Feel better dude!

Yeah, that's my concern. This is the first time getting it, so it's all new to me!

There's plenty of EZ home remedies to reprogram your smell and or taste senses. In my instance, both were shot to hell but taste came back fully within about 4 days or so. Aroma took longer. I used scent therapy like oils & extracts. Super concentrated things. It's different for everybody.

Here's the highest ABV tripel that I've tasted. Pentuple from Hoppin' Frog. 15.1% ABV!

2023 vintage poured from a tiny can. Pours a transparent orange with a very light layer of head. Low density of bubbles rising slowly. Almost mesmerizing how slow they are moving...

The nose is Belgian yeast, oranges, booze, toffee, honey, and bread. I can definitely tell that it's a tripel, although the booziness is definitely not something I typically get from a Belgian tripel.

The taste is fairly sweet. Candy sweet. Caramel, orange zest, wheat, honey, apples, very slight hop presence, and grapes.

Mouthfeel is fairly light, and the aftertaste is a boozy candy sweetness.

I really enjoyed this offering. Simple and actually light on the hops. Very easy drinking. Cheers!

    2021 Straffe Hendrik Xmas Blend

Poured cellar temperature - this is excellent - rich malt is balanced by oak and dark fruit flavors, but fairly dry finish. super smooth mouthfeel

Stille Nacht, a wonderful Christmas beer from De Dolle. I get notes of nutmeg, cream, mulled wine & toffee. There's a LOT going on here, but it comes together quite nicely.

Jolly Pumpkin Blanca. Very nice Witbier, bright and easy to drink with a nice tartness.

Thanks to @Whyteboar for this one!

3 Fonteinen Strenge Winter: Been saving this for a cold winters night and tonight fits the bill. Drinks like a smaller Oud Bruin. Great malt complexity and barrel character. Would love to grab another bottle and let this age for a decade or so.
