    It is!

Luckily they've had it on tap since release and they're walking distance from my house. I can't handle more than the 5 oz pour , but that's only cuz it's an English BW

Yesterday i received a nice box from @DIM in which there are two mystery brews so diving into the first one today.

Beer pours a murky reddish brown with virtually no head. This is suggesting a barleywine is in hand.

Nose is giving me some plum and a strong dose of muskiness with a hint of sour. Perhaps tequila barrels?

Taste is a huge malt base giving me plums, prunes, and dates. Finishes with a balanced and very embracing warmth with each sip.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and fairly smooth.

Overall, I believe I am tasting a very strong barleywine, guessing 14-16 abv given the warmth, aged in tequila barrels.

    The reveal:

Matt from Hair of the Dog!
Label description: Made with various malts, smoked grains, and candi sugar, it has notes of apple, chocolate, and gratitude. Wow, I am shaky at blind tastings but man this was fun! ABV is 11.5 so I was way off there as it came across much more potent with all the warming. I still will argue that i am getting more dark fruits than apple as the label suggests. Regardless, big thanks to Dan for the challenge and to one of his young men for the fine art work!

Hey, nice write-up Tom! I think that's a fun one to parse, probably especially so blind. Surprised you didn't pull any smoke out of that, I had one a couple nights ago and I thought that note was fairly prominent. That could easily be the power of suggestion though.

I'm with you on the lack of apple, I got booze that was not-bourbon but nothing from the orchard. Look forward to reading your other mystery beer review. Cheers and have a great weekend!

Having Tree of Fortitude, thanks so much to @VodkaPong87 for this astoundingly good beer! Aged in a variety of flavored Rum barrels between 14–20 months with careful doses of vanilla, coconut, and lime.

Nobody does pastry barleywine like Tree House, I wouldn't want to try a beer with this description from anyone else. This is just magnificent. The base beer and barrels create a base that tastes primarily of creme brulee like brown sugar with a hint of caramel. The additives are all noticeable but deftly well incorporated. In descending order of prominence, vanilla, coconut, then lime. I am surprised by how well the lime works in such a sweet beer. It's subtle and maybe I'd prefer it not to be there at all but it really does work. Then again maybe I am glad it's there, it's just so unique. The body is thick and sticky sweet just other BA Tree House offerings. My glass is almost empty and I'm sad, I want to have this again.

I picked up a bottle on Black Friday but haven't drank it yet. They had it on draft when I was there, but was sticking with a couple low ABV beers with lunch since I had to drive

The best beers are the ones that make you sad as they disappear from the glass...

The only barleywine I've had from TH that I didn't like was the straight up vanilla one. Everything else with all the addjunks, strange barrels (chocolate bitters??), and blends, has been at least very good and usually amazing. I hope they make Tree of Trepidation one day, barleywine with an insanely long list of weirdness that somehow works. So glad I got try this, curious to hear what you think of it. You got yourself one right?

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a New Belgium globe glass.

    2020 vintage

The beer pours a muddy brownish amber color with minimal ruby(ish) highlights. An aggressive pour yields a light tan head that lingers for a while leaving behind a small cap and moderate lacing.

Boozy and surprisingly hoppy aromas with a nice amount of caramel, toffee, dark fruit, and mildly toasty malts . I am surprised at the amount of hops present after 3 years in the bottle!

Bold flavors of toffee and caramel with a pronounced booziness. The beer is still, even after three years in the bottle, hop forward giving a nice balance to the huge malty base. Medium/heavy body, and lightly carbonated, the beer finishes slightly slick on the tongue.

Overall, this is a phenomenal beer, that ages very well! Such a treat! Thanks to @Whyteboar for this one

No, it was 1 per person. I knew you had liked their previous adjunct BWs so I figured it would be good to send your way. However, my sister is headed there in a couple days…

Lets GO!! this is HiDef Brewing out of LA and their Bass Clef Barleywine. a 15.45% brew. Courtesy of @Resistance88 thank you so much for the opportunity! Before I get to my review, please know if you get a bottle of this, you will need some patience getting through the wax cap. HOLY Thickness Batman! a warning for @DIM ?

    onto my review:
Sampling a cellar temp waxed and capped bottle of this beer, 2023 vintage. Beer enters my snifter a rich chestnut to mahogany colored beer and holding to a light source reveals several streams of carbonation rising to the surface. A dense, creamy eggshell white head of 1.5 cm foams up. this foam is a sturdy edge layering soon after I finish pouring the beer. Several small active areas on the surface do not replenish the foam.
Aroma is molasses and plums and bourbon notes mixing together with some hints of tobacco and leather as well. No real fusol booziness and no real hop character either. Pretty complex and malt driven nose.
First sip reveals a medium body with smooth texture and a little stickiness on my lips. Very fine tingly carbonation. While I know I should sip this beer, the physical traits are not forcing me to do so. A little dangerous at 15.4%!
Flavor is similar to the nose advertisements with some fruitiness of plums and raisins mixing with tobacco and here I do get some light vanilla and toffee. the sweetness of toffee lingers after each sip. I never get any hops and the booziness isnt fusol, or black pepper nor any real warmth on the swallow. I will wisely sip from it, even if it isnt forcing me to do so. A fun barleywine for this evening's tasting.
