Imperial Stout Appreciation Thread (2023)

was going through some boxes trying to organize a little in my basement over the weekend and stumbled upon a box of beer i honestly forgot i still had. will be posting some more from that box in the coming weeks. cheers!!

 

It's a rare sighting for sure. After having this one, I really wish they did more straight up barrel aged stouts!

 

My local UPS store only charges $5, but that's per box not her order. Hope you don't get hit with $20 charge.

Shopping for my brother-in-law's Christmas six pack today and I went to a store that had Willitized, unfortunately they're still trying to sell last year's stock. No fresh coffee for me

 

Mine shipped on the 29th and has been delayed since 12/5. This is why I don't order in the summer. Who knows how long it would be sitting in someone's car or whatever just boiling away.

The last one I got, the guy called me at 7am saying he can't find the house. Finally after a bunch of run-around, I find out he put in the wrong town name. He then tells me he left his house in NJ at 4am to make the drive up to CT for this. I really, really, hope they don't have these guys driving all day for one or two packages....

 

They used to have a company CCS that seemed to be random people driving their own cars. They would notoriously lose tracking after a box hit the Syracuse hub, which is about three hours from my house Then I wouldn’t hear back for anywhere from a week or longer. One time I just met the guy in a 7-11 parking lot because he had no idea where he was going (30 minutes from house) and it would have been two more days to get it. Maybe better delays than having to drive two hours each way myself now, but I couldn’t take any more of the crap service.

 

Would agree that is a decent price.

 

Enjoying an Orange Bitters Barrel Parabola this afternoon. Parabola is lovely as always but i find the rest in the O.B.B. giving this a slight medicinal off flavor...rated 4.21 overall.

I quit Tavour (again) but they've used UPS for years here.

 

it was solid for sure. been quite some time since i’ve had abyss but it was good. roasty, semi-chocolaty with a good mouthfeel. i figured i would drink half and cap the rest but i killed the entire bottle last night.

 

night 2 of “what’s in the box?”

lizard of koz… guessing this is from 2016 or 17. fuck i hate fruit in stouts. other than the tart blueberry this is quite excellent. still get plenty of barrel and a velv, chocolate-forward base stout but the blueberry is just not my thing.

 

Nice. I like that one very much and way more than KBS Blueberry. I doubt we will see that one again though the last time I visited Founders it was on tap. Very lucky. Cheers.

this rocks!

i was a little sketchy on this one going into it… mostly because i was unclear on whether this was the farmhouse version (like why would you even make something like that in the first place?) or the “regular” version. thankfully it was the latter. lots of roasted malts, light coffee and chocolate. a bit hoppy/piney. nice mouthfeel. enjoying this one a lot. cheers!

edit: is that a member of kiss on the can art? or sting the wrestler? or just a norwegian black metal fan ??
