Imperial Stout Appreciation Thread (2023)

I concur, I was fortunate to run into three of the Darkness variants this year:




I'm still incredibly salty over them not distributing 750ml outside of their brewery... had a great bottle art collection going back to 2010 that just isn't the same with cans...

 

Parker's char is reportedly the best of the three variants distributed. The Coco Nitro was outstanding, planning to try the Cherry tonight.

 

Would you believe an infected, 11+ year old Rabid Duck that was undrinkable when new has become, well, drinkable, if not exactly pleasant. Full details in Cellar Reviews

 

So conflicted on Coco Nitro... I knew what I was getting myself into with a nitro stout but I keep longing for carb here and I think this would be so much better on co2 over nitro.

 

Are those cobwebs on the bottle?

 

If you like islay scotch, it's there on the smoked cherry.

 

Left behind by last weekends alien intruders, Lupulin Brewings Polarnattens Paradis Imperial Coffee Stout, a sessionable 10%er that held its coffee flavors quite well. Canned 11/23/21

In honor of @Resistance88 for providing me with this beer, we will be watching Die Hard (Christmas movie) which takes place in Los Angeles. Our yearly tradition.

Still lots of vanilla here. It’s surprisingly boozy after 5 years! I’ve only had the 2021 vintage, and I remember it being much sweeter and thicker. This one is definitely more drinkable. Will be feeling pretty good when the UFC main card starts

I've reviewed all three of this year's distributed Surly BA Darkness variants, and I rank them thus;

1. Parker's Heritage Heavy Char (4.67) - no add-junks
   
2. Coco Nitro (4.41) - with add-junks
   
3. Cold Smoked Cherry (4.05) - with add-junks

But who is 'Heavy Char'?
