A "Dark" Barleywine is an easy way to get "BIL " people to drink the Superior Stout on the Down Low:popcorn:

Snagged a flask of a barleywine that was being put into a single Heaven Hill cask. Tastes awesome now, and can't wait to see what it's like in a year from now. Slight hops, but mostly toffee, bread, and malt forward at this point.

Cross post with the Barleywine/Stout BIF Thread.

Founders Sweet Repute Wheatwine. This is my first time trying a Wheatwine, and I am rather impressed. I quite enjoyed this beer, and while I am not usually a fan of the use of Maple in beers, Founders did a great job of not making it too prominent in this one. The balance between the Maple and the Bourbon barrel is very nice.

Thanks to @Whyteboar for this one!

Dipping my palate back into the American Barleywine realm, Gratitude from East End in Pittsburgh courtesy of this thread's primary advocate @DIM .

Taste is very well executed! The large malt base gives me notes of caramel, figs, and brown sugar. Hop bill is giving a strong dose of orange and grapefruit with the finish giving a nice pine bitterness; 8/10 on my scale.

Mouthfeel is medium to large bodied with each sip being silky smooth.

Overall rated this a 4.43. Could this be Imperial Bigfoot? It's pretty damn close for sure, glad i got the opportunity to try, thanks Dan! I think i have to follow-up with the BA version of this fine elixir!
    Cheers!

Had the BBA version warming for an hour or two. Many thanks to @DIM for the chance to try!

The initial sip was a palate shift to where there was an intense barrel presence all over the base beer with the first sip. Subsequent sips are so much nicer. The large malt base gives me notes of caramel, figs, and brown sugar. The barrel gives me a distinct vanilla addition on top of the generous hop bill which is still a strong dose of orange and grapefruit. Finishes with a very nice combination of vanilla, a touch of bourbon and pine bitterness. This beer is nowhere close to being sweet with the hop and barrel presence, cheers to American Barleywines! Overall rating 4.49.
    Cheers!
    Tom

Hey Tom, so glad you enjoyed those. Still kicking myself for not loading up on more when I was in Pittsburgh this summer. Hopefully next year! Several cases of these would do wonders for my barley wine budget. Happy Holidays!

Had a lovely hand-pumped pour of an English barley wine, Blotto, from Our Town this afternoon. Thanks @Spade for telling me it was there!

The presentation was perfect, served at 50 degress. Loads of slowly ascending tiny bubbles formed a firm looking, long lasting cap of dense, bone white foam. The taste was lightly spiced dates and sweet nuts with hints of black tea and honey up front, drying toward the finish of potpourri and faint heat.

Most of this batch is resting in bourbon barrels, can't wait to try that.

Holy smokes what size is that glass? I'm guessing 10 oz. but it looks ginormous. And quite tasty.

Brew 7000 from Fremont. Incredible barleywine. I did not find this very sweet at all. Just an amazing and intense mix of toffee, bourbon, vanilla, and dark fruit. Notes over in the NBW thread.

I went to my local taproom the other night and tried every barleywine in the category:

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed my selections. But that accurately covers the situation in stores here as well. Came home and had a Zoomie Catcher.
