Man, I really enjoyed Trollsx3 last night. Quite a bit more than Vanilla Deth, and substantially more than BCBS 18 Vanilla. It's just layered in there nicely. Out of the fridge I was a bit worried, but I should know by now that BA vanilla stouts usually taste like crappy medicine at fridge temp. They really need to warm up and bloom a bit before diving in. Loving these aggressively priced BA offerings from FFF like this and Crushing Mass.

2007- It’s Not Normal -aggressively hopped beer
2023-It’s Not Normal- aggressively priced barrel aged beers

The rest of the market needs to fall in line with FFF and trim that hype pricing out of the cost of barrel aged beer.

Yeah, I was thinking exactly this last night while sipping on it. It's not like they're cutting corners here. They are well constructed beers.

I might even drink another tonight...

The smaller breweries probably need the upcharge

Lagunitas would like to have a conversation with them and a lot of others over a $12.99 six pack of Willetized.

First Trolls tonight. Really reminds me of an extremely (can’t emphasize extremely enough) dialed back version of Handjee. Nose is killer as so is initial taste, but just kinda fades away after that. On par with Vanilla Deth.

Mariano’s has Gumballhead 6 packs for $9.99 on sale. I just mention it because it’s rare (I think?) to see 3F at that price point

Cheaper than out of the brewpub.

Most would be giving their beer away for no profit if they sold their BA program at the price FFF chooses to sell theirs for.

Somehow I doubt that…look at the increased price of barrels aged beers over the past 15 years for little reason other than hype. If your statement were true you’d be paying $40 for a 6 pack of lager as well.

Only if they were planning on selling the beer fresh, or adding boilers or tanks to the space that they use to age beer. We're a little gullible when it comes to the price of BA stout, assigning value to production when it's more closely associated with quality and demand. Now, saison and lambic, on the other hand, actually is more expensive, when you consider it really needs a whole other, totally segregated space, let alone can it often age for much longer, slowing down turnover and batch generation.

That said, if you're throwing in a bunch of junk like coconut and the like, then yeah, your prices, and losses, will increase exponentially. But some of these hype breweries were built from the ground up with aging beer as a primary mission statement. They never intended on subsisting off of fresh beer or brewing in volume. Hell, some of them don't even brew their own beer, at least they don't on-site (Private Press). There's a lot of savings enjoyed in that, yet they're still some of the most expensive in the game, because they know people will pay it (and it's relatively scarce). But I'm not sure how long that will last, though, as all the members I know are dropping out or reducing their participation.

On the other side of the coin, people will throw down big money for huge producers like TG because their hype remains strong, which leaves open the option to flip or trade bottles. Personally I no longer think it's worth it, especially having been disappointed in their product the last couple years, so I couldn't care less how intensely people are hyping up Hertz right now.

The rental car company is in the beer game now??? Damn, that's crazy.

Technically beer is only rented so it makes sense.

As someone who isn't a huge vanilla beer fan I was impressed with how Floyds incorporates it. Loved Rue D Floyd fresh before the cherry took off and ruined it. Vanilla Moloko was amazing. Handjee l of course. Trolls is very good.. nice balance of barrel, roast, and vanilla. The finish is excellent.

The untappd reviews claiming "thin" are hilarious. It's a well done beer as expect. Curious what exactly prompted the name.. maybe it's the price. Maybe it's because they finally dropped a BA vanilla beer for the price. Maybe it's because it's well crafted and balanced and not a sticky drown out with vanilla mess like many peeps want. Maybe it's because they lied about the pub being closed forever

Trollsx3 seems to drink best straight out of the fridge in my opinion. It's at it's sweetest and vanilla apex before it warms and the other flavors come into prominence. Good beer and surprised it's not up on the kiosk anymore as their barrel age beers seem to sit there most likely due to the quantities they make. Not sure if they made less, if people vanilla-bro'd like out like it was the 20 tens and hoarded, or if they pulled it down so people didn't load up before the holidays. Guess I'll just have to wait until DLD to see it again.

Did the first batches of Crushing Mass and Cocomungo stick around? Feel like those sold out fairly quickly too, being new. Frankly I'm surprised to hear subsequent batches stuck around, they remained excellent.

Spot on. This was my experience as well. Very odd - vanilla usually jumps out more as the beer warms but not with this one.

It's been selling quick.. I've been using the beer finder on the FFF website and I went to the first store that appeared to have it here.. and only one pack was left.

I was at Total Wine the day before Christmas Eve and they only had two singles left.

I think the holidays had a lot to do with it because that same night, Total Wine had cases upon cases of Lagunitas Willetized 6 packs for $11.99. I was there again yesterday and every case was gone. Lots of empty spots on the shelves in general
