Saw someone walking into 39th Street Brewery this past weekend - will we finally see this place open up this year?

Someone walking into the building is more activity than any of the permits for it have seen in a while, a they were last updated in August.

2024 is starting out with a forthcoming brewery closure - just after Red Sash's purchase of Double Shift became official in mid-December, Red Sash announced last week that the Red Sash brewery will close this spring or summer due to lease issues, while the Double Shift space will remain open.

We will see a few close in 2024 and bks expand even more.

Since it's been mentioned by Side Project as a Stout Week release....

Oak & Steel chose a barrel in their Silent Barrel program and will have it available (in some capacity, not sure on how the on-site/to-go options will work out) soon.

Oak & Steel has Mornin' Delight on tap. Still amazes me how some beers would draw a big enough crowd to blow a keg just a few years ago, and now don't seem to get mentioned.

BTW - is this year's Abraxas on shelves? I haven't been looking, but it would 'complete' my 10 year vertical meaning I could finally open them and get rid of a box of beer. If Oak & Steel wants to host, or anyone wants an invite, let me know.

EDIT: Idk what I even have anymore. I need to take a look through my Abraxas bottles. I may have totally forgotten when it gets released.

I haven't looked myself (full disclosure: I buy beer in local beer/liquor stores a few times a year), but I can't imagine it's very hard to find these days. Also, if you want to do an Abraxas vertical at O&S, there's very little to do beyond "show up on some random Tuesday".

Regular abraxas is at mikes. Lots of bombraxas still too. They also have some 2021/2022 abraxas too I believe.

It didn't take a month into 2024 for the first half of that post to happen, as Apex Aleworks in Independence closed last weekend.

I was confused about that (just saw the post last night.) It almost seemed like they were selling it...? Curious what shape it takes on (if any) with the move.

Anyone heading to Alma Mader for their dark beer week events? Special bottle pours today through the weekend.

I'm not certain if I'll make it. I may save some money for whatever wax bottles BKS teased on Instagram and/or Oak & Steel's Silent Barrel release. I could certainly use another visit to Alma Mader.

I agree that their FB posts were worded oddly, but between asking a couple folks in the know and that they mentioned they were staying open until all their kegs were killed, it doesn't appear that whatever happens with the brewery/space is a straightforward "someone bought it and things will swiftly resume w/o any real break in continuity" scenario.

Probably? Despite not being a member, I've had pours of all the member bottles they're featuring this weekend previously, so my own FOMO isn't terribly strong. That being said, they're all still great beers and this event makes it easy to revisit them.

Being a member, I was wondering if I even wanted to make the trip and arrange a ride, but those beers are good, so I may find myself down there this weekend.

Shame to hear about Apex Aleworks. I like some of the changes the new owners made, but miss having an English Dark Mild on tap year-round.

I’m out of the loop but what I understood from the video is the dude is just stepping down and Apex will continue as it.

Just saw torn label announced a new beer
“East crossroads reserve series, this beer is aged 14 years in willet bourbon barrels, this barleywine packs a punch at 14%”

that’s not a thing. No one is putting beer in a barrel for 14 years. Right?

I think everyone who's seen that Facebook post is refreshing it to see how long it takes for them to correct it.

It's only been a week since Torn Label posted about their 9th anniversary celebration events; the barleywine was also mentioned then - where it was noted as having aged for 14...months.

I wanted to just wave it off as they meant months not years but I also was curious if they actually were marketing a beer falsely.

Guess I've finally reached that point. I just didn't want to deal with the lines at BKS. I'm semi-happy they did it all in-person (it saved me money.) Cool to see them do some more BA beer, as I was under the impression they were out of that game.

AM's member release got moved back a little later, so not a birthday week celebration, darn it.
