Not to derail the topic of the thread too much, but I liked both those beers too, although more so for the Porter. I suppose Dortmunder is too rare of a style, to both have a good German and local reference to compare with. The only one easily available is DAB, but it isn't a very good beer.

I haven't had DAB in 45 years but I didn't think it was a standout back then.

Wikipedia has articles on DAB and RitterBrau (this in German). A sad story for Dortmunder beers. All Dortmunder labels are owned by Radeburger (a large low cost brewer) and produced at the original Hansa Brewery. DAB is still the main brand and Ritter might still be produced. The Hansa brand is a well known low price line.

Interesting, I didn't know that. I have nothing against Radeberger — my two favorite German imports are Radeberger Pilsner and Radeberger Zwickel (a strong contender for being my biggest favorite along with Jack's Abby Post Shift, and Allagash Seconds to Summer). Today I learned that Radeberger also owns Jever, which is an excellent beer as well. I might need to find a fresher DAB to give it another chance.

Just saw that Nordic Frost, the Icelandic bock, is hitting distribution tomorrow. I've been looking forward to this one since the 2024 release calendar came out.

    Here's my review from last year's brewery-only release: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/26520/636661/?ba=KP7#lists.

I think the main factor is whether they can keep the quality with the larger batch for distribution compared to the small batch off their pilot line last year.

Excited to see this and Troegs Bock for the spring. It’s a great transition style from winter to spring.

    Much better than an IPA.

I agree. I also appreciate seeing these bocks hit a wide distro this time of year instead of getting Sunny Ridge and other summerish offerings pushed at me in Feb. as spring seasonal.

Slo Lager has not been added to the Lager Locator. Has anyone seen it in the Arlington/Lexington/Burlington area yet?

Found it. Looks like Liquor World in Davis carries it for anyone looking.

Porter Square Wine and Spirits in Porter (formerly Liquor World), or Downtown Wine and Spirits in Davis?

Liquor world is in Somerville per the google machine. Porter Square would be much, much easier for parking purposes.

Their website does not have it in stock compared to the official lager locator, so results may vary.

I used the Jack's Abby Lager Locator feature and it appears that SLO Lager is a MA only product. :slight_frown:

@floozbag54 the beer is listed as Human Robot - Slo Lager on the locator.

    Cheers!

Ball Square has the Slo Lager in their 'employee picks section' as of last night.

I was drinking it at a party and not able to pay that close attention (and only drank two of them) but my half assed first impression was that it wasn't as interesting as I was hoping it would be.

One of their new releases is a smoked marzen called Fire and Bern(stein). https://jacksabby.com/beers/fire-and-bern-stein/

I've been struggling with the name for a few days. Does anyone get it? Some sort of pun on fire and brimstone? Something about the great fire of Bern in the late middle ages (I highly doubt this one)? Did Leonard Bernstein really like rauchbiers? Seriously, anyone got anything on this?
