    Hello all!

Another holiday post from me, with the first picture the view as I type this from the beach below the father-in-law's place (which can just be seen to the right of the big white house in the middle of the picture). That entire escapement was badly burnt by the 2020 bushfires, which were right up to his back fence before they were turned back. The whole area was devastated and several houses in the street were lost, along with many hundreds of others in the region.

But less gloomy is the bright yellow beer I had with dinner tonight, which contained thiolised Nelson hops. I have no idea what that means either, but whatever they are, they left a weird candy, plastic-like note in the beer.

The weather's meant to be pretty shit from herein, both hopefully the forecasters got that one wrong and I can make all you shivering northern hemispherians jealous with tomorrow's post!

    Cheers!

Just got back from an afternoonwalk in the freezing cold. There was a lot of activity on the river. Saw all flags from our neighbour countries except the German. But maybe they were passing by in an U-boat.8) Now time for my favorite Chimay beer. Cheers!

This used to be one of the first open swimming pools in Belgium:

    Responses to yesterday’s thread:

@ATL6245 - The picture looked blurry, I chalked it up to lighting but my second picture proved it was what IT Folks like @LarryV may jokingly refer to as we did in Chicago as a “a glitch” (or another joking term for an IT issue 100% caused by user error / ignorance, not the IT).

@Danmullens1 - I thankfully left for Vegas just before the snow, and hoping it melts by the time I return (thankfully 4.5 inches, not the forecasted foot at O’Hare). Hoping you, @GreenBayBA and all impacted by the snow and vortex do OK (and my heater at home holds up).

@DoctorZombies - Awesome you got to catch Elvis Costello. Like Dan one of my favorites (and also one I sadly have not experienced live).

My seven hour blizzard drive home from Green Bay about 25 years ago is still etched in my mind. The worst snow I’ve driven through outside of Chicago blizzards.

@vabeerguy - Sorry to hear about your wife’s lack of progress. I’m hoping her specialist can pinpoint what else needs to happen to pull her to here best recovery possible, be it additional procedures or different therapy techniques, or perhaps a little tough love encouragement to help her fight through the PT pain and get her to a better recovery. I will keep you both in my prayers.

I will return with some beers throughout the day, just enjoying my time reading our WBAYDN thread and others from yesterday.

Too late to reply to your post from yesterday since the thread is already locked down.

You're absolutely spot on - that's one of my favorite Steely Dan tunes, I love that in the pocket groove. Thanks for posting it, probably talk to you later today with a beer in hand :sunglasses:

LOL - yes, glitch, fluke - but NEVER tell the user it was their fault :stuck_out_tongue:! If they own up to it on their own, i always say something like "it's easy to do, I see it all the time .. ", and actually, there is some truth to that.

I had a ticket once where the user said their Dell desktop PC wouldn't power on. So I went up to the lab and asked her to show me the PC. So we walk over to the PC and she presses the eject button on the CDROM player several times and says, "see, it won't turn on". I said "I think you have to press this button" and proceeded to press the power button and of course it turned on immediately. She didn't say a word, just walked away

Good day BAs! Off to another chilly start (26F/-3C) after last night's freezing rain/snow mix. Don't really care as long as we have electricity - got some flickers last night but most of the idiots driving around managed to miss the poles. @AzfromOz, any live pix from you have got to be more pleasing than our local weather! We all heard about the Aussie fires but for most of us (outside California) they were just filler on the nightly news bites. Glad to hear your father-in-law's place came through it OK.

Today's New Breakfast Beer, from @muchloveforhops3 and BSBIF#1:

Final impression and summation: 4 Looks like an impy stout. Predominant aroma/taste is bourbon and wood. Unfortunately, the wood isn’t oak, cherry, or apple, but tastes like poplar or some other junk wood. Fortunately, as it warms, the wood becomes less apparent/offensive. A bit of sludge remains in the bottle bottom. In general, this seems to have been released too early – a few more months in barrels would probably have improved it. Thanks Doug!

Afternoon BA! Watching the first of the snooker Masters semi-finals while having a couple of beers and it will only be a couple because the fridge is bare! Will have to have a quick walk into town to pick something up for this evening and tomorrow.

Hawkstone IPA. From the brewery Jeremy Clarkson setup with Cotswold Brewing. A very bland beer indeed.

    Solid beer!
While it was a great special, not one of Bill Burr's best, imo.
