My barleywine brother (@DIM) has flooded me with insanely good and new barleywines, so I better start digging in! This is Way Way Way Up from Jackie O's and Dancing Gnome. A barleywine brewed with Meadowfoam honey and aged 14 months in Russell's Reserve Bourbon Barrels. 12.4% ABV.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a murky brown with a thin layer of off-white head. The nose is fantastic. Smooth notes of toffee, figs, vanilla, honey, maple, and bourbon.

The taste is incredible. Tons of barrel hits immediately. I can taste the bourbon, and I love it. It's not harsh or boozy, which can sometimes happen with these barrel-forward beers. However, this just punches with flavor and not booziness, if that makes sense. Honey, marmalade, strawberry jam, figs, and vanilla. Lovely sipper!

Dan - you are amazing and I love you like a (barleywine) brother!

That beautiful color that my phone just hates to capture is on par with its taste. Right after a long workout, this glass of absolute delight is just not going to live to see “opening up”. But it totally would do that amazingly and stuff.

Will is not a homebrewer: this is something that he has been working on, for years…perfecting/understanding native microflora(s)

Have held off, but would like to create a thread to dress decanting/oxidation/yeast development across styles….unfortunately, this would likely be a one post thread

Grabbed a random can from the astounding assortment of barleywine sent by @Beersnake1 thanks as always Tim!! No barrels or addjunks this time, Perepllut from Blindman in Alberta. The name come from the Slavic word for rogue, he was the ancient god of water, soil, and the fertility of the Earth.

2023 vintage, 11% abv this year. Brewed with barley, wheat, and oats. This has a wonderful, mellow sweetness throughout that is really working for me. Honey soaked raisins and dates, toffee, a touch of orange extract, a hint of something I want to call cranberry, and more with a light coating of brown sugar over everything. The body has a nice fullness with gentle bubbles. An amazing barleywine overall.

I think this probably came from @Beersnake1 so thank you to him. This stuff is pretty damn good. Probably my first offering from Smog City, hopefully not the last. Cheers!

A friend of a friend that I've never met gifted me this, thank you! Mistress of Evil from Ever Grain, blend of barrels aged between 11 and 24 months.

Well damn, this is great. Tons of raisin and figs dominate this one. Lots of brown sugar and smooth as hell bourbon too. Hints of leather and vanilla round things out. I'm surprised by how much I'm loving this local offering.

@Spade are you near Camp Hill? You should check this out.

brandy barrel-aged english-style barleywine with coconut. honestly, had my doubts about this beer but it’s quite good. not nearly as sweet as i thought it would be. the coconut is mild and well balanced. i dig the brandy barrels. cheers!!
