I'm sure the dream is bring back the Pappy DL or coffee Cognac, but they'll probably just mix 3 of them together and age it in a dessert wine barrel.

I like the idea of the tiered system. Nice addition. What happened to the official DLD website? Am I losing my mind? So confused...

I am told that the website burned down.

I goggled it 3x earlier and ended up at a Key West website signing up for rum with salt water and 3 Thai ladies.

Is this one of the exclusive BA variants or something?

Anyone have experience with the deluxe tent and if it's worth it? Curious to know what rare variants they had in the past. Also, is there a general share tent? First year going, so pretty excited.

I can’t speak to the Deluxe tent other than the rumors of the ritual sacrifices, free tattoos, furry orgies and Gumballhead hot tubs.

Last year was the first year they did it and from what I heard the variants inside were not that special and didn't rotate much since people weren't ordering that much, so the same thing would just sit on tap for hours.

The lines for taps outside of the deluxe tent were super short so you could get plenty of good variants without deluxe. When I peeked inside the deluxe tent it seemed pretty chill in there, good if you want a quieter place to sit I suppose.

Yes, there is a large share tent for anyone, but bottle sharing also happens anywhere and everywhere honestly. They had a couple areas with plenty of picnic tables with umbrellas setup where you could sit and bottle share as well.

The question is will the deluxe tent be the only place to try the limited 20th anniversary DL on draft or will it be everywhere?

Thanks, this was very helpful. Honestly seems like I'll probably just go for General Admission then. I'm curious to try the 20th Anniversary DL, but honestly feel like it may not be that great anyway.

Assuming you are a person in average health without a cyborg mechanical liver, there really shouldn’t be a shortage of amazing beer to try, including more DL variants than most people can reasonably consume in one fest. So I wouldn’t sweat potentially missing out on 20th Ann DL. Especially as I don’t remember the last time in the modern era there was a DL variant that was a whale that wasn’t remade or overstock sold at the fest the following year.

Edit: Also, given it is currently 56 degrees and sunny in Munster, IN they may want to consider moving the fest back to the traditional April date so we don’t wind up with a 100 degree scorcher in May.

I didn't really go near the deluxe tent, nor did anyone in my group. So no real comment there. I will say the ease of access to everything last year makes something like that tent not really worth it to me. Rather hang with the peasants.

I'll second what @kodt said. Waits everywhere were really short last year. The longest line I waited in was for food, and that was pretty much Donerman that was the worst. We could walk up and order pours of BA variants, and pretty sure we tried most, along with several other vintage BA variants. Key Rock was the first thing I saw immediately upon walking in.

And yeah, sharing is everywhere. We've hung out at the umbrella tables the last few times and have had a great time. The giant share aspect of DLD is a pretty good time. The encouragement to bring your own beers in to a fest atmosphere and share is the opposite of how the world usually works. So it's a lot of fun to have at it with everyone you meet.

Unfortunately last year was too chill so they had to add a bunch of GA tickets to get back to the old mess.

While it’s possible that more people will be there this year, they don’t have a time machine to make all of us younger. Since the vast majority of craft beer drinkers are now in the 35-44 demo set, yours truly included, our days of irresponsible shit show level of drinking are waning if not gone. Many of us now have families to go home to instead of being single and able to be non functionally hungover for days following DLD. For my part anyway, cheaper tickets aren’t going to change my behavior or significantly more chill approach from last year. Maybe cheaper tickets will bring in a few more of the younger demo since there’s less $$ commitment and not having to love stout to buy bottles, but cheaper tickets don’t address the data that says the 21-35 set drinks less, and when they drink it’s macro or seltzers.

I mean, even the weather was absolutely perfect. Hopefully it doesn't have the same idea...

Yeah, I think the "wait in line an hour to try a Dark Lord variant on draft" days are over, so even with larger crowds hopefully we won't see the heydey of lines everywhere.

Also, I know there are many metal fans out there who always bemoan the lack of GA tickets because they just want to go see those bands and don't care about the beer at all. So a fair amount of GA will be just watching the bands most likely.

To clarify, I'm not opposed to GA tickets. I might even consider doing that if FFF gets too high on their own supply and gives us a bunch of weird variants. I'm just guessing that means longer lines. I'm not worried about tap lines as much as shitters and food.
