Earlier this evening I enjoyed drinking a Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald Porter:

I am not prepared to state this is the "best" Porter but it is indeed in the top 5/10 list of my favorite Porters.

    Cheers!

I think that’s a very good way to put it. I haven’t had a porter that I definitely thought was the best, but Eddie Fitz is definitely my favorite. Cheers.

Cross posting my review (I’m assuming that’s ok?)

Best by 7/3/24. If that means seven months old, then this tasting will short the beer a bit.

Tulip glass. Pours black with a very slight tinge of reddish brown. One inch foamy head that disappears quickly. Light lacing.

Smell is licorice and toasted barley.

Taste is complex. Ripe pears, chocolate, red wine over a base of sweet toasty malt.

Quenching at the front, then light and a bit foamy, quickly drying, ends very dry. A bit more carbonation than seems to belong here (compared to other porters).

    Very good.

FWIW my local Retail Beer Distributor gets periodic drops of this beer (in limited amount - a case?). More often than not the shelf where they place this beer is empty but when there is some of these beer there I will buy a few (4-5 bottles). I have cellared this beer and it ages very well.

    Cheers!

    Bingo!

If you are going to make the trip specifically to purchase Zywiec Porter it would be wise to call first to see if they have the beer in stock.

    Cheers!

yes, when I was at the brewery last week they had mixed 4-packs of cans of Porter - their Pugsley Porter, Drunken Pugsly (Bourbon aged), Drunken Raspberry Pugsly, and the Drunken Village.

I've had the regular Pugsly Porter a few times in the past and enjoyed it.

Only drank the Drunken Village from this mixed pack so far - it was okay but I thought the coffee flavor was a little sharp and acidic in the taste.

Enjoying the 2021 version of Whiskey Butte Porter, courtesy of @muchloveforhops3 . Thanks Doug!
Getting the trademark BBP chocolate malt in the Aroma and Taste. The barrel lends the slightest touch of whiskey with a bit of flavor and heat and balances the sweet malt base nicely. Rated 3.92.
    Cheers!

I picked up Deschutes Black Butte Porter yesterday for the first time in a least half of year. I'm always surprised how hoppy it is. I do enjoy it but that's not my ideal type of porter.

What do you like better? Which widely distributed (meaning: I can find it in Michigan) porter would you suggest comparing against Black Butte?

Unfortunately I do not have easy access to many quality porters these days. Anchor was my go to. Stone Smoked Porter is long ago dearly departed. I would pick up SS Taddy Porter if I could find it refrigerated near me.
