This could be useful if paired with other tags or filters, like “currently available within 5 miles.” But on its own I don’t know how helpful it would be—for example, how many thousands of beers would come up if you entered “hazy,” “juicy,” “ resinous,” “piney,” or “dank”? I suppose if you could enter numerous tags you could narrow the list down considerably, but I’m still not convinced it would be all that useful of a feature for most folks.
One problem with this, well-intentioned as it is, is that people who have no such reason (such as English not being their primary language) would just use AI anyway and then any restrictions on its use would become meaningless. I don’t know that BA wants to get into the business of determining which members are not native English speakers, but it seems that would almost have to be required for something like this to work without being abused. Not saying your idea isn’t a good one (and it could open up BA to more users internationally, which was the topic of a recent thread, I believe initiated by @Todd), I just don’t know how it would be applied in practical terms.

I briefly mentioned this in my earlier post. That's the most plausible case I can see where using AI to help (not generate from scratch) your review. It's how AI is supposed to be used: to help us, not replace us.

That said, feeding your Portuguese beer review into ChatGPT and saying, "Make this into English!" is probably still going to return some wonky sentences, and a non-native speaker may not even realize it, so it's not a perfect solution.

Anyway, Todd said he will announce the official policy once it's ready.

...looking forward to BA guidance on AI generated content...

...FYI: had a bit of fun using GPTZero to check Google Gemini generated reviews for Budweiser as well as my reviews of Hair of The Dog 'Doggie Claws'...interesting (and seemingly accurate) assessments of the probability of AI vs. human generated reviews...I'm going to play with this stuff some more...

Why the hell would anyone be so goddamn lazy to not even muster the energy to do their own beer review?

Also, yes it’s 100% unethical for a brewery to post or market with AI generated reviews of their beers while giving the impression that they are from actual, living customers.

Old man yelling at the clouds moment incoming but serious wtf is wrong with people/society?

It’s not really relevant to what this thread is about, but a large “lightly-managed” Facebook group (that’s nominally about local beer) gets a post per day from a guy in California who writes lengthy word salad reviews for beers that are invariably not available locally.

One of the ways some folks have been trying to shame him into no longer spamming the group with his reviews was to create multiple AI-generated reviews and post them there as well, eventually pointing out that a bot wrote more coherent reviews than he does.

I fed some "5" rated Budweiser reviews from here on BA into GPTZero and they confirmed they were 'human'. But that was a very limited sampling. Are you getting the results you were expecting?

...yes, I am, but then, I only submitted seven or eight samples, so very limited sampling as well and in no way would I conclude the overall reliability of this one program in detecting man vs. machine writing...I doubt if I'll go down the rabbit hole of expanding my "research" on this...it should be interesting to see what tools BA will wind up using (and whether they'll be behind utilized behind the scene, part of the mod team toolbox or available for anyone to use or some combination of those practices...

Thank you. AI generated content flies in the face of the purpose of this community. Most of us are not experts. We just love beer, we love to talk about beer and we love to interact with others and hear their opinions on beer.

Hey folks, totally get the need for a policy on AI-generated content in beer reviews. It's all about the genuine love for beer and connecting with fellow enthusiasts. Excited for the official policy rollout!
