I'm particularly good at not reading what I am not interested in.
    So what's the big deal?

    Cheers

    One more thought…

Folks who enjoy the appreciation threads probably chose to watch the ones they like. Hence the active threads will be readily accessible to them.

Grouping the appreciation threads in their own forum will make it easier to find new ones, and will free-up the other forums, making it more likely for everyone to see other threads that may be of interest. Especially the short-lived threads and threads with only a few pages of posts.

The reasons why some people have suggested making modest changes to where/how these appreciation threads are located have been discussed in great detail in this very thread (all 10 pages of it)—but if you haven’t read any or all of those posts then you probably won’t understand what the issue is, which in turn would lead you to ask the question you have asked. If you are genuinely interested in getting an answer to your question, I would encourage you to read the posts above yours.

No, I love them and they help keep this forum active.

But the thing I'm saying is exactly the opposite. It's a rhetorical question. I'm not looking for an answer.

I'm NOT interested in reading 10 pages discussing the amount of beer appreciation threads.

So I don't. That's my choice. It's easy to ignore anything here actually. Sometimes I do. I encourage anyone to give it a try. Or, read whatever you want. It's not like these threads are crowding out the other 500 discussions.
    Cheers

I don't think we will have reached critical mass until we finally have a Southeastern Newark Dry-Hopped Imperial Kellergose with Kiwi and Lactose appreciation thread.

I get your point. But by ignoring what other people are saying about this, you are also ignoring the very valid reasons why some people (a majority, actually, based on the poll) would like to see some kind of change related to these appreciation threads. For me, the primary one is that it actually makes it harder (marginally, but still harder) to skip over threads I’m not interested in, because I have to spend more time scrolling through more titles—even onto a second page—just to see if there are any discussion topics I am interested in reading.

So by all means, ignore all the threads you want. No one can or should try to read every post in every thread on BA. All some of us are saying is that, with a small change to how threads are organized, we could each have a “home” page that offers greater diversity of topics while also allowing users more options to customize what they see when the visit the site.

I agree, I think there’s too many - as an old beer nerd, I appreciate all styles. Having threads to express appreciation for specific styles seems superfluous, IMHO.

Just to give some perspective on how things change from day-to-day, at the moment there are only 4 threads on the first "beer talk" page that are appreciation threads for a specific style or brand. Many people might be better served if they were in their own space (including the fans of such threads), but ATM their number isn't close to threatening to bury the other "beer talk" threads.

I see you posted this at 9:37 a.m. your time, 6:37 a.m. mine. I can see why the appreciation threads might cool down a bit overnight. Currently on Beer Talk, out of 20 thread titles, I’m seeing 4 straight-up appreciation threads, 5 WBAYDN threads, plus a few more “regular”’threads: post a picture of your pet and a beer, post a picture of your latest haul, oldies/goodies, and lacing pictures. So that’s 13 of 20, leaving space for just 7 threads about one-off type discussions.

I'm surprised by your post. When I previously mentioned how deciding on what threads would count was blurry, you responded with: "If any change was made I think it should be pretty narrow in scope—just threads that are celebrating/appreciating a specific style or brand." So that's the criterion I used when I counted 4. "Beers and pets," "hauls," etc. would not be moved out of "beer talk." They aren't relevant to this discussion. My count of 4 was also like that for a few days at least... it wasn't due to that specific time of day.

I’m not saying those other threads would/should be moved. I’m just saying, that’s a list of “regular,” quasi-sticky threads that constantly bubble up to the top, similar to the appreciation threads, that routinely take up real estate on page 1 of Beer Talk. But if you want to talk about a grouping of threads that do crowd out more diverse subject matter, I think you have to include them in the discussion. The main point of my post was to provide some additional data from a time of day when most people are not working etc.

On that subject though, I do think time of day might have something to do with how many of these appreciation threads appear on Beer Talk, but I’m open to being proved wrong. I’m not going to check at different times of day to find out, I just know from experience that activity on WBAYDN usually starts slowing way down by about 7 or 8 p.m. my time. Most people across the country have stopped opening new beers by then, or are already too drunk to remember to post them. Seems to follow that these other appreciation threads would follow a similar pattern.
