Finally got around to having On & On & On; Part 3. It's a bruiser of a beer. I recall the Rev crew mentioned it being "drier and boozier than Deth's Tar" and that's the truth. And I love it for this. Need to revisit it again but I'd put it near On but behind On & On, rankings-wise. Regardless, all three have been great beers and looking forward to the next one later this year (presumably).

So the brewpub is back open - but are they still doing Happy Hour? There seems to be conflicting reports on insta.

My wife and usually stop by every Friday and grab a few drinks and a couple apps before getting the kid from daycare, but if that’s gone, i can’t see us stopping by on the reg any more.

We actually opted for Middlebrow today because we concerned Rev wouldn’t have happy hour.

Love Middle Brow. Space is pretty chill and their pizza is some of the best in the city. Not as beer centric as they used to be, but they still brew some decent stuff.

Unsessionable is back and scratching my itch for something clear, bitter, resinous, and boozy. Thanks Rev!

Nobody asked for it, but here it is anyway: GuyFawkes' 2023-24 Deep Wood Power Rankings.

    1) Double Barrel V.S.O.D. True God-tier Deep Wood action here. Silky smooth mouthfeel, velvet chocolate flavors, some nice graham & vanilla for that s'more vibe, plus some red wine & plenty of wood notes. Incredibly flavorul & high in ABV, but so, so balanced & easy to drink. A stunner.

    2) Straight Jacket Most years, this would be number one. More God-Tier barrel aged beer here, with dark fruit, lots of wood, mild caramel, congnac & faint whisps of cream soda & chocolate. Unbelievable.

    3) Cuvee de Grace Underrated this year, in my opinion. Wonderful notes of dark chocolate & fresh cream up front; oak, and a hint of orange citrus on the finish. Plus some nice booze warmth once it warms up. CdG = trademark of quality. They've all been great.

    4) V.S.O.R. Select The rye spice is very subdued here, with more maple / molasses notes coming to the fore, plus some brighter cherry notes and of course, plenty of wood. And as the cliche goes, it's VERY dangerous, as it's SO easy to drink at over 15% ABV. A really nice beer.

    5) Deth's Tar This has become a perennial winner. Creamy, rich, chocolate-y and so, so smooth & easy to drink. A very solid batch this year.

    6) Dread & Breakfast This one is tricky for me; it's a triumph of the brewer & blender's alchemy, as it evokes so much breakfast glory while only using coffee as an additive. However, I'm not really looking for breakfast-style stouts these days, whether using additives or not. So I appreciate the craftmanship, but not really the vision here. Still, a very good beer.

    7) Ryeway To Heaven I liked, didn't love this year's batch; too rye-spice forward for me. Not as balanced as it has been recently. Still a lovely brew.

    8) On & On Pt. 3 Nice enough, but a bit roughshod compared to the nuances the best of Deep Wood. The oak, cream soda & chocolate notes are pleasant, but don't mesh that seemlessly. To me, anyway.

    9) Deth By Cherries A fine beer. I'm just not interested in fruited stouts these days. I'd rather them make more "regular" Deep Wood than continue down this path year after year.

    10) Cafe Deth See Deth By Cherries, but I really, really dislike Dark Matter coffee, and I'm even less interested in coffee stouts than I am in fruited stouts.

    11) Life Jacket An interesting idea; a mildy unpleasant beer. It's not really bad, per se, but I'd never think to toss a little pineapple juice into a barleywine, and that's the overall effect here, to me. Of course, since it's Deep Wood, it's more balanced and drinkable than it has any right to be...but it's still not one I'd ever seek out again.

Finally got around to On & On Pt 3. I definitely picked up a bunch of sweetness, but maybe because it leans more barleywine than stout. I think Deth is more roasty which gives it a perception of dryness.

Overall tons of caramel and barrel on this beer, the barrel/cellaring teams really excelled here, good stuff. It'll be near the top of my list of the Deep Woods beers from last season.

I think this one's probably a bit overshadowed by VSOR Reserve release.

Anyone have any inside scoop on when the spring Deep Woods release may drop? They just posted about a Cosplay event on April 12th, which would have been my guess based off previous years. Can't imagine they'd do both of those on the same day.

My Revolution source told me they were aiming for March for Supermassive Cafe Deth, if I had to guess maybe weekend of 22nd or 29th. That was a few weeks ago so idk if things have shifted or not.

@BeerCruncher - is this a HA exclusive or will Rev be selling any?

For us to sell each other’s releases, legally we’d have to sell the beer to our mutual distributor and then they sell it to the brewery. Because of that and the fact that we’re so close, we usually just keep it at each other’s place except for some kegs for events.

Finally got to sit down and try the latest releases. It's exciting to put these together, lots of great beers. A few great surprises and a few ended up lower than I thought.

    Cuvee de Grace
    - probably impressed me the most
Straight Jacket - always hits the mark for me
On & On Pt. 3 - so much barrel character, this had the best balance between barrel and beer I think
    Dread & Breakfast
    Double Barrel V.S.O.D.
    - great, but a bit sweet, I'm due for a revisit tho
    Ryeway To Heaven
    Deth's Tar
Cafe Deth - this was near the top of the list last year when it brought big balance of smooth coffee and barrel. Beans taste earthy this year and the barrel wasn't as prominent.
V.S.O.R. Select - this is great, but man it's so sweet. This has to be one of the sweeter beers Rev put out. Although maybe the rye plays a big role here. I'll stick with Ryeway for now.

To answer a question that only I asked -

Rev Pub no longer is doing happy hour, which is a real bummer, as it was defintley a go-to this last year.
