Wardman Wines over in Brookland. No mark-up either. They have a couple of serious beer geeks on their staff and sometimes carry interesting things.

Not in DC, but I have purchased it in Potomac Yard Total Wine.

They had a few six-packs left at Dominion last night. Awesome beer, grab it while you can.

Anchorage stouts showing up for a cool $60+ each. At least The Veil finally dropped some cans. The best stuff I bought lately was Long Live.

Question for those more in the know: is that pricing on Anchorage out of the ordinary? I've never bought one of their beers, but I have a vague awareness of a website or app or something called Tavour, and I've seen social media posts to the effect that Anchorage stouts/barleywines occasionally show up there for around $50. I had just sort of assumed that's how they price their offerings.

Most definitely not out of the ordinary just very expensive (imo) to begin with. I am more curious as to why they start at $40ish and go up. Is it cost of ingredients or logistics of the brewery? The reviews imply they are worth it but at the $60 price point, I am going with a rare breed or 1920. At the $40 price, I might splurge for a holiday but if I can't stomach buying a BCBS variant, it probably isn't happening.

People need to stop paying these crazy prices so they eventually begin to drop a bit. One of the ones I saw at Dominion was actually $70

I might be able to justify paying that for 22 oz bottle or bigger, but real tough to do so for a 375 mL.

I never had anything by Calvert. Seen their beers in stores from time to time over the years but never bought any (no online buzz, lowish BA ratings etc). I haven’t had anything from the 2 contract breweries mentioned in the article (Soul Mega and Lost Generation). Have I missed anything? I don’t have a FOMO feeling at all. Also we’re there any other notable brewers contracting brewing there? Just curious.

Is their Alexandria location staying open? Enjoyed their selection of beers I can't find closer to home but t's still too far except for the occasional visit.

They didn't say anything about Alexandria, so I'm assuming the status quo will continue there.

I was over at lost generation, seem to be doing alright. No, Calvert never distinguished themselves. They built themselves up to being a low-mid sized brewery (why did they have a 100 barrel fermentor???) but never had hype nor interest.

Seemed to be more of a business operation than a true brewing operation at some level. You can't be like that.

Scorpion Brewing is closing. I couldn't figure out how to link to their FB post without just linking to their page... mildly annoyed I coudln't just extract the link. Small brewery down past Dunkirk on Rte 4.

The short is their rent increased by a lot but they've always, to me, had some iffy hours and while they scrape along they seem to be just scraping....

    But...

Their FB indicates there will be a new venture in North Beach, MD. So it looks like it is a generous setback but not a defeat.

I've liked talking to the owner and he's generally been a positive person.

I dont think Lost Generation is contract brewing for anyone, but they are making excellent beers and is a cool place to hang out.

implication was the other way around... calvert contracting for others, which wouldn't shock me.
