Here's to @RaulMondesi for this Kern River Brewing There is Still Beaty IPA, 7.0% ABV; 4.23 overall

Pours an effervescent & ever so slightly chill hazed gold with a thumb of pearl colored head. very good head retention & lacing

S: Some citrus, a little breadyness. Breadyness picks up once warm

T: Very dry grapefruit, breadyness, grassyness & limes up front. Cakeyness, grapefruit, dryness, some woody/piney hops as well as this beer warms up. Finishes cakey with a little pineapple, pineyness & limes

    MF: Medium body, subdued carbonation

Good old school, no nonsense West Coast IPA, nice drinkability

ONe more for the weekend. This is TreeHouse in Massachusetts and their Double Baked barleywine. ABV not on the label, but this is a blended beer that aged in various bourbon barrels and then apple brandy barrels, and then re blended with tree of life rum barrel aged barleywine ad even a little weizenbock for good measure. the beer is crazy complex, I bought it at the brewery in Charlton, and its been in my cellar since then.

    onto my review:
Sampling a cellar temp 12 oz bottle poured into my snifter. No date stamp and no ABV on the label.
The beer pours a thick dark chocolate color, with a creamy beige head of .5cm. this foam fades to an edge layer soon after the pour and remains as such for the sampling. There is only very scattered lattice when I take a sip of the beer.
Aroma is rich and malty an complex with caramel and toffee mixing with good bourbon notes and some candied fruit. No hint of hop character and I dont get any fusol notes or spicy pepper to hint of booziness.
First sip reveals a medium to thick body with fairly sticky and coating texture. There is very mild and spacious carbonation. Definitely portrays itself as a sipping beer.
Flavor is sweet for sure and complex too. I get a lot of toffee and caramel mixing with bourbon notes and hints of chocolate. I again get candied fruits and do surprisingly find a little cinnamon on the finish. No hops anywhere to be found.
I also dont get any warming, no black peppery bite, no ABV hints at all. Crazy for so many barrels and what must be a higher ABV.
This is a tasty and complex barleywine that rolls on the sweeter side, but I am enjoying casually sipping it before heading to bed to start the work week. Glad to have picked this one up!

Fort George - Etymology, barrel aged barleywine

500ml capped/white waxed bottle served in a little snifterish glass. Don't see a date.

Pours dark brown, kind of translucent, big super-dense beige head, settles slowly. Smell is wood, old damp cellar, slight toffee, caramel, vanilla.

Taste is much more than the aroma suggested. Date and toffee sweetness, toasted nuts and slightly burnt dark bread toast bitterness, figs, lots of vanilla. Wood tannins (I think) cut the sweetness really well.

Mouthfeel is more fluffy than thick -- fills the mouth, but doesn't feel thick or heavy or sticky. Overall, interesting and very tasty.

Cheers to @jschott75 for this one!

More Brewing Co. Henna, Gingerbread & Vanilla, Imp Stout, 14.0% ABV; 3.87 overall

Pours a very effervescent ebony with minimal tan head. Pours like old motor oil. zero head retention or lacing

S: Plenty of gingerbread, some cola notes

T: Follows the nose, booze bite, vanilla, woody hops. Molasses, gingerbread , vanilla & a little boozy sharpness as this beer warms up. Finishes chewy with molasses, vanilla & booze bite & gingerbread

MF: Very chewy, low carbonation, warming booziness

You can feel the heft, but not overbearing, flavor & feel was pretty good, the rest, lacking

    Yazoo Brewing Lost Years

Light golden amber color with quickly dissipating white cap.

Aroma of rich malt and spicy hops. A clean scent.

Taste on entry is a combination of malt and hops in about equal proportion. There is a touch of hop bitterness on the back of the palate that steps up over the malt without stomping on it. Clean, crisp and satisfying.

Texture is a small bit above medium.

A very flavorful Lager style beer suitable for food, company or both.

We had pretty much the same experiences; however I'll fill in the aroma part for you since your schnozz isn't working very well. Here's my review: Bourbon and malt on the nose, then coffee and bourbon show up first in the taste followed by the malt. Nicely balanced. Very minimal coffee taste at the end. The 13.3% abv is pretty well hidden.

Thanks! Might be the first tag-team review ever. And thanks for giving me the heads up on this. I would have kicked myself if I hadn’t known about it until it was gone.
