No, I was never at Sugar Moms. I turned legal in 2002 and at that time, when my friends and I made the occasional trip into the City, we were going to either Monk's and then more often Eulogy since it was less crowded.

I have a Backyard in 8 weeks, but I'll have to see if it's possible. I'm undecided after that, but maybe the PCT 50. You?

Thanks for sharing. That place reminds me of La Trappiste in Bruges

Nice! July seems like a good month for something halfway between CO and CA!

It was indeed an interesting place.

I would go every now and again but my stays were often short lived due to the smokiness prevalent back in the day.

    Cheers!

I’d like to ask @Resistance88 what their all time favorite non-adjunct imperial stout is. I rarely drink anything over 8%, but have been having a craving to have an imperial stout. I figure if I do have one, I may as well seek out one recommended by a person who has had many.

I had a Skullsplitter at the cellar-like Brickskeller in DC, but I don’t think that counts.

If he doesn’t respond with Old Rasputin, bottles not the cans. I’ll send someone a box of beer.

Split thy Skull sounds awesome. Between my low tolerance and the smoke I wouldn't be there long either

I hope he does, because that’s the one I want to buy, ha. Haven’t had it in ages.

Hmm.... I'd have to convince my better half that a trip to Tushars in Utah for the mountain marathon might be worth it (Aravaipa event). Not sure I could do the longer distances with LT100 just 3 weeks later.

ICYMI, there was a thread about non-adjunk stouts a while back. I don’t recall any American Imperial Stout falling within BA’s Top 100 highest rated for the style that wasn’t barrel-aged or with stuff added. Russian Imperial Stouts were another story: https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/best-plain-stouts.653052/

Brewers are simply less likely to sell a beer as "Russian" if they want to sell it as a beer brewed with Snickers.

These days I've been drowning myself in Fremont- Dark Star (Is Oatmeal an addjunk? ) and Old Rasputin.
It's hard to say what my All Time favorite one is though because i stopped logging most of my beers , but around the time i stopped I think it was around 300 or something Imperial Stouts .

If i had to go off the top of my head It's these :

Old Rasputin (BOTTLES not the contract brewed cans) If you're gonna use improper glassware : The best way to have it is to let it sit about 30 min after pullin it out the fridge and then pour it aggressively into a glass

    Fremont - Dark Star : It's 8%, too

Stone - Imperial Stout : the new release grew on me )

Alesmith - Speedway : it's in a pint can,12%abv it has coffee , but man does that beer hit the spot.

Brävery Brewing - The Shroud .

@Providence I can also vouch for Dark Star, an awesome beer that @snaotheus sent me sometime last year, just a really great smooth silky drinker, packed with all things dark and bitter.

I guess I don't have to send anyone beer, sort of wish I had to...:slight_frown:

@Resistance88 you're the reason I tried Old Rasputin finally, you recommended bottles not cans; that really stuck with me for some reason.

You can always send me a box :stuck_out_tongue:
I recommend the bottles and not cans for one reason :

I always knew they were inconsistent as fuck. Always hit or miss. Sometimes too metallic, sometimes sweet, sometimes more bitter than usual. Then i find out...
The Old Rasputin in cans are contract brewed by Gordon Biersch.

It's been a minute since I've had a Rasputin, but man do I love it. Fremont Dark Star sounds awesome. Doubt it gets anywhere near here, but who knows. And nah, I don't think of oatmeal as a bad addition at all. So far as I'm concerned, oatmeal and coffee are fine in a stout. All the other stuff is rubbish.
