Mad Dog Tannen’s Cowboy Coffee by Brew Kettle. A nice merging of coffee and malty char. Cheers.

If the Black Butte anniversary series (or regular Black Butte, for that matter) has escaped anyone’s attention, hopefully this post will rectify that matter. I found this bottle in my beer fridge and promptly realized I’d never had this vintage before. It holds up extraordinarily well. Preliminary review below. Cheers!

22oz (best after 7/20/2016—check) into a tulip. Pours a deep dark chocolate brown with a thin mocha head, patchy lace.

Aroma is rich and roasty, slightly bitter. Cocoa, coffee, roasted nuts, a hint of vanilla.

Taste is a nice balance of bitter and sweet. Same roastiness as the nose with a mix of hazelnuts, chocolate, and toasted coconut.

Mouthfeel is on the heavy side of medium, just right. Velvety smooth with just a hint of boozy heat.

Overall another excellent Black Butte anniversary beer that has aged very nicely.

If you are deciding which one to open next, I would drink those in clockwise order.

A bit on the hoppy side for a porter but still very good.

[IMG] This is neck and neck with Great Lakes “Edmund Fitzgerald “ for my favorite Porter! Both are superb and reasonably priced!

And I would add Deschutes Black Butte Porter to that list.

I don’t recall ever trying that one. Dechutes is not always easy to find here.

It would seem it depends on where you live in Ohio. According to the beer finder it is available in the Cincinnati and Dayton areas.

    Cheers!
