Because I fail at interneting despite 28 years experience.

I just drank El Segundo Power Plant tonight. Canned 1/19. I wasn’t thinking about it through the lens of PtY. but retrospectively, I could see that. Huge hop taste and aroma. West coast in style. And the body was excellent. also one of the places where PtY shines. Such a high ABV ipa without being sweet, cloying, syrupy thick.

I feel like there should defintely be a big distinction made between hazy and traditional American/west coast TIPA, since in my experience the former is way more common than the latter, even as a ratio compared to their own substyles.

Once the haze craze took off a lot of the popular breweries focused on the imperial/DIPA to the point that the effective flagship beers for a brewery like Other Half or Equilibrium are 8%ers like Broccoli or MC2 and always have a bunch of 10% stuff available, whereas back in the day a flagship IPA like Two Hearted or Hop Devil would usually be something closer to 6-7%, and a 9-10% IPA was a big deal once-in-a-while special event like Waldo's/PTY/Hopslam.

Nuclear Power Plant is from El Segundo Brewing

Most people say it's just as good as PtY

I've had both and they're both MEH as hell

(don't shoot me. Blind Pig is king)

Yeah yeah yeah, I've already been corrected on that one.
You can't be trusted when it comes to yellow beer!

But yeah, I'm never looking for more than a little glass of these kinds of beers anymore. PtY has always impressed me for just how drinkable it is, and the Alesmith/Pizza Port one that came out recently was pretty enjoyable. But 16 oz is more than enough for sure.

Enjoying a can right now. I'd still give the nod to Younger, but undeniably, this is an excellent TIPA.

Don't see them around much, but then again, I'm not looking. I find most DIPAs to be too boozy, and TIPAs just seem like American Barleywines with extra hops and no nuance to me. At least the West Coast style ones have a bitter backbone, the hazies are flabbier than Grimace fucking Barney.
