Kros Strain Barrelywine Volume 9: Sherry, 24mo Sherry BA Barleywine, 13% ABV. Pours dark brown/black with a small beige head that left no lacing. Aroma is real light red wine. Taste is a pleasant sweet red wine, slight bitterness. Decent mouthfeel, overall excellent. TBH I'm not a fan of wine BA beers, particularly if they're tart, but this is nicely done. Still, my lowest rated variant of six reviewed so far.

Guilty! I prefer bourbon and rum for BA beers.

16 ounce can with no discernible date, although we did receive this case two days ago.

Moderate to vigorous pour yields a two inch dark tan head over a black body with lacing.

Nose of chocolate malt, malted milk, slight coffee, slight maple, and slight vanilla.

Taste has more maple and less chocolate than the nose with coffee and vanilla present.
Finish is where the coffee really makes its presence known.

Nice full mouthfeel with low to medium carbonation.

Overall, a nice coffee stout that needs a bit more coffee, but I wouldn't turn down another.
    Cheers!

Red Panther Brewing Clarksd'Ale Pale Ale

Amber gold color with quickly diminishing white cap.

Aroma of mildly sweet grain with a light dusting of hops.

Taste is clean, balanced and similar to the Amber Bock styles of Abita, Yuengling or Shiner. Brewery doesn't disclose their grain bill so it would be speculation on my part to guess. Dark color is caramel or roasted grain I suppose but the brew is not over sweet or roasty grain bitter, rather a pleasant combination of something similar to those two. For me it's a single lane road running down the center of American style Amber Ales. A lawnmower/barbeque brew that doesn't challenge the drinker. Should sell well in the Mississippi Delta which has long hot summers where you can literally fry an egg on the pavement.

The brewer chose naming conventions that refer to location. Clarksdale, MS, is the seat of Coahoma County which itself is a Choctaw Indian phrase "Coahoma" which means Red Panther.

I drank this next beer on tap at the brewery yesterday…still the weekend, right?

Cigar City’s Double Barrel Hunahpu’s (2024). Imperial Stout aged in Apple Brandy barrels and Vanilla Brandy barrels:

On tap at brewery pours dark brown almost black with ruby edges; no head, cap retention nor lace. Let beer warm up to 54°. Strong Brandy nose with a boozy exhale. Taste is boozy apple jack, Brandy, grapey wine; spicy Huna finish. Smooth silky feel; medium plus body; light carbonation; alcohol (12.8%) and peppers bite on tip of tongue. Overall outstanding; strong Brandy presence.

    I added beer to database

The bottles sold out before I got to the brewery, but I would have bought one to age. The Brandy notes really balanced out the spicy chocolate base.

Back home now and here's a beer that @turfy so kindly sent to me.

Art Car IPA - Saint Arnold Brewing - Houston, TX - American IPA - 7.1% ABV

First off it went down fast, very fast. It is more of a malty IPA to my taste buds, and it has a nice tropical and pine undertone. I really enjoyed in spite of my rating being below average. @turfy I thank you from the bottom of my heart for this one. Thank you!!!

    From a 12oz can.

This is a semi-murky pouring beer. Golden in color with amber hues in the beer. The head is a frothy 2 finger white head, with great retention. There's some beautiful sticky looking lacing on the glass.
The nose is somewhat malty, with a lot of grain undertones. There's a bit of hops in the aroma. Somewhat tropical in nature, with a bit of pineapple.
Taste - Grainy and malty up front. Good biscuit flavor. The hops come more in the backside with some tropical notes. Somewhat tropical, faint pineapple. There's also some pine resin flavors in this beer.
Sticky and thick feeling. It coats my throat nicely.
Tasty and delicious. I am liking this beer.

I think I am done with reviews for today. I might move over to WBAYDN. Cheers all

Good evening, gang. I inadvertently created a them, I guess, between Stranger Things and this one for tonight:

The truth is out there...but my dad is not the Cigarette Smoking Man...

Medusa Duchovni - a Czech/Bohemian pilsner. According to the sell sheet, it is a world class example of the classic Bohemian pilsner. The name pas tribute to the obvious, and at the same time is used in the Czech language to describe something spiritual. World Beer Cup gold medal. Uses German pilsner grain, Saaz and Magnum hops, Bohemian lager yeast.

Ok...they have a high opinion of it, let's see what's what...

The pour was slightly hazy straw color with a huge, frothy white head. The head slowly falls to an eighth inch cap leaving a lot of residue on the glass.

Smell is of sweet crackery/biscuity malts, earthy/floral/grassy noble hops. There's a slight kinda raw grain note that seems out of place. It is a little hop forward but not much.

The flavor is slightly sweet biscuity malt - more than the nose would suggest. The hops come to play quickly - floral, earthy, grassy, a little bit of lemon. Pretty decent bitter hit that fits the style. I get just a touch of mint aromatic and some peppery spice on the finish. Pleasantly hopped with some balancing bitterness.

It's medium bodied, clean with a nice lingering aromatic hops flavors.

It's a nice-drinking beer. It's maybe a bit hop- heavy but the hops don't dominate. I'm thinking 3.8 to 4.0 or so on the score.

    New Glarius 30th Anniversary Quadruple

    10.5%

Poured from a twelve ounce can, the body is a beaver brown with nice initial head. Light lacing.

Aroma has wonderful sweet banana-clove notes. The nose is much sweeter than the taste.

Taste follows nose as the clove and banana carry through to taste and are complemented by dark fruit flavors - fig, raisin. A light caramel flavor rises as the beer warms. The high ABV is not hidden but it is not too hot.

Mouthfeel is good, soft and luxurious, and assisted by sturdy carbonation.

A delightful quad that makes me want to try more beers by New Glarius.

I’m adding another one tonight…I couldn’t resist opening this one and sharing. I’ve been on a hot streak finding classic IPAs freshly canned as of late and it has been glorious. I forgot if it was @ovaltine or @ChicagoJ, or both that made me want to try this one but thank for putting it on my radar. I’ve searched for a while for reasonable dates and yesterday was the day…

Cleared my head to try and really get into this one on a cold and windy as hell Sunday night…onto beer…

    Revolution - Anti-Hero IPA (AIPA 6.7%)

Dirty light gold in color; crystal clear big dense and fluffy, yet cohesive head that settles nice and slow.

Upon first whiff it’s a bright shot of pine laced with orange citrus; if you take the time to keep smelling the citrus becomes slightly more dominant, this is accompanied by a growing malty note, but remaining dominated by hops.

The taste is so pleasantly balanced; a true sum of it parts beer for me; abrasive yet restrained pine needle hits the tip of the tongue proceeding go coat it, slowly masked by orange peel, it’s got the orange character but with a bite, or maybe it’s just mixing with the pine quality…last to the fray is the malt that provides a nice canvas for those American hops to shine, lending just enough presence to give this a noticeable yet balanced malt quality.

Medium body; tongue pricking bitterness, pine through and through, very clean; highly drinkable IPA.

You Chicago dwellers are lucky to have this beer.

This was a fun beer to get into tonight; thanks to this place for giving us a spot to do this fun thing each weekend. See you all non five days, enjoy whatever is or isn’t in your glass tonight. Have a good week and cheers everyone.

Bourbon Barrel Quad by Great Lakes. 11.5%
    [IMG]

Poured from a pint can, the body is a very dark brown, completely opaque. Modest lacing throughout the tasting.

Aroma is a bourbon with notes of caramel.

Taste follows nose as the barrel is front and center, though not overly hot. No banana or clove flavors. The briefest note of sweetness. It’s as uncomplicated as it is uninteresting. I left it warm and no discernible change in flavor. Minor malt notes buried by the barrel.

Mouthfeel is medium with good carbonation.

Not my favorite quad. More of a bourbon vehicle. Not a satisfying effort from brewery that usually is solid. YMMV.

Cheers @jschott75 Triptych Brewing King Meme Triple IPA. 10.0%ABV; 3.92 overall

Pours a hazy gold with a finger of pearl colored head. Above average head retention & lacing

S: Some citrus & melon, not much

T: Grapefruit, dryness, a touch of lime, some green & papaya up front. Green melon, pineapple, & tangerine as this beer warms up. Finishes with pineapple, green melon & dryness, a little coconut showing up late

MF: Medium body, dialed back carbonation, nice balance

Great drinkability, but doesn't piece together as a great example of the style

    Good evening denizens of NBW!
My nightcap is one I spotted while shopping for my target
    [IMG]
The stout presented me the first discernible taste of Unami that I think is the only time that I’ve ever tasted it. Started out as a smoked flavor and then the Unami.
But that wasn’t the primary flavor, just enough to notice. Coffee and chocolate abound, roasted malts indeed.
The feel is lightly viscous, a good sipping beer.
OA, I think my target might just like this.
    Cheers!

Gracias to @MutuelsMark for this World Beater! 2023 Firestone Parabola ( Bourbon Barrel Aged ). 13.2% ABV; 4.42 overall

Pours an effervescent ebony with a pinky+ of caramel colored head ( tight ), Average-ish head retention & lacing

S: Dark fruit, molasses, caramel & maple syrup once warm. Some nice Bourbon notes once warm, vanilla as well

T: Follows the nose, raw barrel, a touch of caramel & maple syrup, some coffee notes up front. Barrel dryness/rawness, a touch of coconut & maple candy, then some stronger coffee, plus the Bourbon claws through, along with some chocolate once this beer is near room temperature. Finishes with oaky booze bite, some caramel, maple syrup, figs, molasses, & leafy hops

MF: Chewy, restrained carbonation, much warmth. Just gets chewier as this beer warms up

Great BA Imp Stout! Not even a close to a chore to drink; dangerous!

For something different is Burn Out The Night, one of Pizza Port's endless IPAs.
Well, it IS black and also very bitter. Seems to combine the least desirable attributes of a Stout ( charred with no malty sweetness) and an IPA (harshly bitter). It pours a clear dark brown with a red cast and plenty of beige foam in the Petrus goblet. Aromas of coffee, cocoa, and a cut cornfield. Tastes of burnt malt and bitter herbs. Pleasant spritzy mouthfeel. Interesting but not my idea of fun.

Nephew has survived his second birthday party, parents are duly congratulated for keeping a kid alive for two solid years. Back home, comfortably ensconced in my couch, chillking out with the last beer of the weekend. Pick it back up again Thursday or Friday, heading to Phoenix, where I'm sure I'll have more new-to-me beers, but may not have much chance to review them since I'll be travelling with family.

Otherlands - First Flowers maerzen. I attempted the @beergoot pour, and the results are pretty, but not up to par. If @jonphisher is still up, he can weigh in with a score before the thread closes.

32oz crowler served in a curvy pint glass. Got the crowler yesterday at The Bine.

Pours a clear nutty amber, big fluffy head, substantial carbonation. Smell is bready, nutty, toffee, floral sweetness.

Taste is pretty similar to the aroma. Grain and floral sweetness dominate, a bit of honeysuckle. Nutty toffee notes certainly are present. There's a little bit of an earthy/grassy bitterness, but you kind of have to look for it.

Mouthfeel is light, smooth, clean. Overall, this is very nice, though a bit on the sweet side, but tonight that's appealing.
