He's the best beer department manager I've dealt with in a very long time.

Huber Brau in St Johann in Tirol. They make a nice variety of lagers, but the zwickel at the brewery is the best.

One for the road at the airport in Munich. I had an HB dunkel the last time which was very nice. This one is not as good, but still works.

Yeah, it's very picturesque, but I didn't get a chance to sit outside this time despite 60 weather since it was closed.

Another Zero Gravity beer brewed for Oxbow. Not my favorite, but not bad either.

On another lager-related subject, I just learned that Allagash discontinued Seconds to Summer, at least for the time being. Sad, considering it was my favorite lager for the last two years.

Do you know anything about the new allagash one? Surf House, I just saw it in their seasonal packs announcement. Nice to see several go into six packs. Details on site…

    Hops: Ella
    Yeast: Belgian Lager
    Suggested Pour Size: 16 oz.
    Ideal Within: Six Months
    ABV: 5.5%

What a thread. I've been following it but not a single mention of Boston Lager, my personal favorite. I've been trying some lagers this year but , so far, SABL just seems to work best for me. Yes, I know , not a lot of love for SABL here.

Yeah, I saw the announcement of Surf House on IG, that's where they confirmed no S2S this year. It's quite a different lager, also dry-hopped, so I don't hold my breath. It is already in the stores, so we'll find out soon.

That's not good news. Seconds to Summer was quite nice... as was Beach Report. I need a major cheat sheet to keep all these no commitment, warm weather Allagash drinkable pales straight in my head. They're impossible to remember by name. Is it Beach Report and Surf House or Beach House and Surf Report? I give up.

Surf House sounds like an overall downgrade for me. Adjunct lager with higher ABV and losing Euro hops for Aussie ones. Not surprising.

It doesn't look like I tried Beach Report. From the ingredients, it seems to be a Belgian beer. Surf House is indeed a downgrade considering rice and corn in the malt, higher ABV, and dry-hopping. But I reserve my judgment until I try it.

This has to be one of the most curious Lagers I've had. It's feel has an echo of an oak-aged Pils but is instead loaded with lime zest & lemon. Malts are light and wallpaper compared to the sharp fruity notes and a zippy dry finish you can almost hear. Pretty good and I'll be comparing that flavor journey with some American Pilsners. My hunch is that some from the US could be IPLs but are labeled Pils. At the end of the day I don't really give two hoots as long as the beer is good. And we have some damn good ones don't we? Cheers!
