After reading some others I really need to throw New Glarus in there as an honorable mention. I love all their beers. For the record, none of these breweries are in my distribution area and I rarely get their beers so I guess I can taste the scarcity goodness.

    Two comments-
Peoples lists seem to coinscide with thier geogrophy.
In retrospect, my personal list has changed considerably over time.

10 is too many for me but notables for me I’d say if your counting Asahi although it’s a parent company. Hofbrau and Sixpoint immediately come to mind.

    Sierra Nevada

That's a tough question! I've really only scratched the surface of the amount of breweries that exist and with that under consideration, my top 10 list would most certainly be subject to change. But, as of now, here's my list (not in any specific order) of breweries that make the beers I like best:
    1. Sierra Nevada
    2. Barrel Theory
    3. Summit
    4. Schlenkerla
    5. Founders
    6. Fernson
    7. Ayinger
    8. Bell's
    9. Kros~Strain
    10. Maine Beer Co.

  16. ATL6245

    ATL6245 Grand Pooh-Bah (3,984) Aug 16, 2018 Georgia

My favorite breweries (ones I consistently buy the most beer from & one or two I would buy from all the time if I had consistent access):

    Good Word Brewing (GA)
    Halfway Crooks Beer (GA)
    Bold Monk Brewing (GA)
    Round Trip Brewing (GA)
    Creature Comforts Brewing
    Weihenstephaner
    Ayinger
    G. Schneider & Sohn
    Schilling Beer Co
    Fox Farm
    Bierstadt

Out of curiosity, is there a particular inactive brewery you'd want to be on your list?

Is there any particular reason you use the site of FW's brewpub and test facility? The main brewery is in Paso Robles miles north of LA.

    ...two, actually:
    • Privatbrauerei Bischoff GmbH (a small regional brewery in Winnweiler, Germany) that ceased operations about 2 or 3 years ago -- a nostalgia thing as I had some great experiences near Sembach, Germany while stationed / living in the area for three years
    • Hair of The Dog

I wonder how our personal lists might have changed over the years. I suspect mine has changed at least a little.

I'm not sure I could really put a top 10 together, much less in order. I think I might be able to chunk them into categories, though.

    No doubt making the list:
    Hill Farmstead
    Russian River

There's just no disputing these, in my mind. They do damn near every style, and damn near every style among the best in the world.

    Probably making the list:
    Suarez Family
    Kane
    Tree House
    Fremont
    Firestone Walker

It would probably take one heck of an argument to push these out, due to complete mastery of one style and an ability to brew others.

    Maybe making the list:
    Allagash
    The Bruery
    Sierra Nevada
    Fox Farm
Cigar City (I refer you to El Catador offerings to make my case)
    Anchorage
    Transient
    The Alchemist
    Angry Chair
    Modern Times
    Bottle Logic

These are all high quality, but either have a limited style in which they excel (Angry Chair, Bottle Logic), or a more varied selection but without necessary being best-of-the-best in anything (Allagash, Sierra Nevada). Any of these would have an argument, for sure.

Difficult to put on the list due to limited output:
Rochefort, Westmalle, Chimay, Orval, Cantillon, Drie Fonteinen, Aecht Schlenkerla

I love abbey ales and I love lambics and gueuze, but I would find it very difficult to put a brewery on a personal top 10 list if that's literally all they produce (or at least the only thing you'll find from them). The same goes for a number of German brewers who produce fantastic lagers, and may well produce other wonderful beer at the source, but not necessarily beers I'll run across stateside.
