Edit: It's really not good. the 2013 vintage was TERRIBLE and this one is slightly better ...the cardboard isn't that intense . Old hops , old apple core , old grapefruit and vegetal flavor

 

Cracked this monster open. Great beer plays well with shitty news. I’m sure I will regret this tomorrow but I don’t care right now.

Rye Whiskey Barrel Aged Bucket of Bolts from River North tonight. The barrels came from Spirit Hound distillers.



Not loving this one. The rich caramel and toffee up front are very nice but it falls apart after that. An odd floral note emerges in the middle along with an unpleasant, artificial, sugary fruit reminiscent of bad kids candy. The has a little rye and too much oak.

 

I haven't been impressed with any of the River North offerings. I used to get their stuff when I was using Tavour, and can't remember really liking more than 1 of their beers

 

My best friend from the college days is a huge Red Wings fan and he moved out to PHX in 2010 so we ended up getting a ticket package to the now defunct Coyote games. His nickname for the Flames was the Calgary Shames...guess there is reason for that to this day . I am cheering for the Hurricane, should be fun to watch!
Love hockey in-person going back to the 1970's cheering on the Saginaw (MI) Gears as a youngster in the now defunct International Hockey League. I think the movie Slap Shot was based on the hijinks of IHL play!
I was more of a street hockey kid since i always had lame skates and weak ankles...Best of luck to the Oilers!

 

It seems I bought 11 of theirs through Tavour. 3 were good but if I was still on the app I'd pass on them going forward.

 

I've only had their Maibock but I wasn't a big fan because it was too sweet. That's kinda the vibe I get whenever I read descriptions of their beers on Tavour

Good Word Brewing Well-Oiled Blend 2022 #4 Rye Barrel Aged Barleywine 10.5%

Nice effort here from Good Word. Very drinkable. It's sweet but quite drinkable. Barrel and whisky note compliment without becoming the main feature. Alcohol is well hidden. Full bodied with a slick mouth feel. Rich with dark fruit flavors and aroma. Appropriately warming on the back end. I like it.
