Yeah that's a good guess. Sea quake isn't a brewery I'd expect to have deep enough pockets to fight a protracted legal battle.

Good luck. They up in the Redwood's area, almost to Oregon. I've only seen their beer when I am there on vacation. They have a great brewery/restaurant in Crescent City. We always go after hiking all day in Jedediah.

Because th t are so small there could be a chance SN wasn't aware of the artwork.

As far as I have seen they are only in del Norte, humboldt, and trinity counties. Maybe they get across the border into Josephine in Oregon and I haven't looked for beer in siskyou County in years so maybe there too.

I agree that their space is the best in crescent city but i always recommend the beer at Port o' Pints. Super good Reubens as well

Agreed. Reminds me of when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers sued a Division 3 College because they had the almost exact same logo with the only difference being the colors and what the judge threw the case out for- in one logo the Buccaneer had both eyes open and in the other he was winking…

Ah, the ol’ ‘do it for the exposure’ line. Even better, tho, are the ‘submit your best design for our new [logo/image/publicity] and win something small and inconsequential’ contests. Pay your artists!

Sad, and lazy on Sierra Nevadas part to not be aware. But, again. It really could be that most breweries aren't unique and tend to copycat one another. And, it'll bring some additional tourism attention to Seaquake.

It’s really hard for me to believe that Sierra Nevada would start stealing label art after 40 + years. Anything is possible, but my money would be on this one being a coincidence.

Some would say after 40+ years it's hard to believe that they're a mid level Hazy factory now as well .

Until they come out with an explanation fuck them.

A coincidence this big in the same industry from breweries in the same state for the same kind of beer IS probable, but ,fuck , what would that chance be?

Most plausible explanation to me would go something like this. SN has some young, inexperienced graphic artist do the label art for Cosmic IPA. Artist outright lifts the image from SeaQuake (thinking, stupidly, that no one will notice) and no one up the chain at SN is aware that it came from another brewery’s beer—after all, there are tens of thousands of beers out there and no one has an encyclopedic knowledge of what all that label art looks like. SN approves the artwork and onto the cans it goes. Under this scenario, hopefully the plagiarist has already been fired and SN soon releases an apology and changes their label art. But I find it hard to believe that multiple people at SN knowingly stole this image and thought they could get away with it.

I agree, there would have to be a high level of stupidity to think no one would notice, and while I may not like SN IPA heavy lineup, I don’t think they fit the stupid bill. Who knows, maybe they hire an outside firm to produce graphics?

The more I think about this "artwork," and looking at the search results @jesskidden suggested, I have to wonder if SN's design firm/freelancer wasn't utilizing an AI program to generate an image.

Hell, based on that Google search -- maybe it's even stock imagery.

I'm sure they do. I doubt SN has an in-house graphics department.

There is a newish brewery in Houston called Bad Astronaut. Space and NASA have always been big nostalgia things for breweries to mine around here. I was just curious to see how their labels compared. At least to me, these look pretty unique, unless just a guy in a suit would bring up any alarms for infringement. Not sure how they would be viewed if in the same local as SeaQuake, and I have never seen or heard of that particular Sierra Nevada beer till now (I never heard of SeaQuake till now either, so there you go).

Unless there is more to the story, not sure why Sierra Nevada would do this?

    For sure they don't

Yournearlier post also goes into why almost every artist is against(fucking hates) AI.
Where do you think that AI gets the images ?

by stealing everything that was created by humans and end result is some bullshit.

I'm sure they do: hire an outside firm or freelancer to produce graphics.

    Just to confirm my opinion.

    @Resistance88 -- I'm a retired graphic artist/illustrator with 30+ years experience -- none of it AI generated.

I would also like to see the internal memos from the in house attorneys justifying that label. Evil or ignorant?
