Greetings all, it’s 1st of may which in Europe means a holiday, day of the comrade workers…

Drinking this fine amber ale from a recently opened brewery of a friend of mine. Nice endeavor from him as it’s quite a job.

Golden color with good white cap and lacing.

Aroma of sweet malt and noticably green, pleasantly citrus hops.

Taste is clean, refreshing and hop forward in a good way. Their is a solid malt base but hops are the primary flavoring agent here. The hop blend is skillful enough I don't get high points like lemon or grapefruit, rather a tasty mix of citrus elements that even out in a rounded whole.

This is actually a very nice imperial hop bomb. Sticky, bitter, and with a great mouthfeel.

Bottled 2/1/24. Poured at 52°. Cold coffeelicious.

One of my drinking buddies has returned from his drive up to Maine. We will trade beers we each gathered along our respective trips last month, later this afternoon. I’ll try to check back in then. Cheers and have a wonderful Wednesday y’all!

Labour's Day. So I took day off to work a bit here.

De Koninck! Brown ale from Antwerpen Belgium. When I left high school and started pubcrawling as a student, this was one of the first "special beers" I savoured.

Did not drink it for decades. Did not think too much about it, but it sort of disappeared. Thought maybe it was no longer produced... Until I stumbled upon these bottles.

Would it spoil my sweet memories of my wild days as university student and a novice to real beers?

Hell no. Great beer. Not too sweet, no sugar added, not to strong in AB, yet a full body, little brown sugar taste, hints of almonds, mostly pleasantly, mellow bitter hoppiness.

Ehm.... Thought it had US origin, let me consult Wikipedia :-)

The 1 May date was chosen by the American Federation of Labor to commemorate a general strike in the United States, which had begun on 1 May 1886 and culminated in the Haymarket affair four days later.

    ,,,
On 21 April 1856, Australian stonemasons in Victoria undertook a mass stoppage as part of the eight-hour workday movement.[10] It became a yearly commemoration, inspiring American workers to have their first stoppage.[11] 1 May was chosen to be International Workers' Day to commemorate the 1886 Haymarket affair in Chicago.[12] In that year beginning on 1 May, there was a general strike for the eight-hour workday.

From yesterday's WBAYDK thread in which we posted about RR's STS Pils, a shout out to @FRANKHAZE for a tip. He said :

"Nice, for me velvet glow is the underdog of RR beers"

Well, pleased to report we have a brace of cans patiently waiting in the beer fridge for the opportunity to fulfill their destiny.

Thank you all. It's a photogenic place, no doubt at all about that. The beer itself is very different from what an American palate is used to, but once you get to accept that (and adjust your expectations) it is great. Besides, strong-flavored brews would not match the local cuisine and its delicate flavors.

    Cheers all!

That’s a pretty decent Stout from the friend in question, and it drinks more like an English one. Bitter, thicker than other French stout I tried, coffee notes and a low 5% ABV.
