    Lavery - Ulster Breakfast Stout

16oz can served in a big snifter. Can is undated as far as I can notice. Got it from @Ozzylizard, again likely related to NBS BIF #18.

Pours dark with a medium sized head with a short lifetime. Settles into a light, wispy dusting across the surface and a sturdy ring around the edge. I think I can see some carbonation going. Smell is tons of coffee, light creamy sweetness, let's mention the coffee again because that's what it smells like.

Taste is sweetened coffee, maybe with a hint of smoke in the background? There's something in there that's either surprising or out of place. The best I got is that somewhere in between the wash of coffee bitterness and cream sugariness there's a little flash of berry jam. Maybe there's some toasted nuts in there, too.

Mouthfeel is medium, maybe a little heavier, a little bit chalky. Overall, this is a really nice beer if you want a moderately sweet coffee stout.

Day 2, I’ve had this beer numerous times, and rated it, but never reviewed it. Today’s the day.

Pours a slightly unfiltered orange color with a sudsy white head that provides a bit of lacing and a nice ring around the body of the beer. It looks like summer in my glass.

The wheat is very apparent on the nose, and there’s also a nice bit of orange and some grass, which fades into a spicy aroma that is remindful on my nose of coriander.

The orange flavor is forward on the taste and is the peeled into that grassy flavor that I’m really digging, with a nice amount of spice and a crushingly smooth finish with the wheat malt. Really good stuff here.

When a beer has a day to celebrate its release, you know it’s gonna be a really good one. This is a really good one.

Sierra Nevada - Summerfest. Kids' musical last show is tonight, will go hang out with the director's husband after strike, which will probably turn into half the cast's parents drinking at their house. So, I'll review this one, and bring the others there tonight to supplement the Teeling I'm gifting them.

12oz can served in a kind of tulipy glass. Can is dated 031824.

Pours clear light brass in color with a huge fluffy head, settling slowly, with a heterogeneous mixture of big and small bubbles. Not a lot of active carbonation at rest. Smell is yeasty lager funk and a little grain, maybe more than a little, smells like spent grain actually.

Taste is not a departure, but a change in balance. Yeasty lager funk takes the backseat a little bit, the grain is now up front with some grassy/earthy hop character. Surprisingly strong bitter finish, but not overwhelming or anything.

Mouthfeel is light and dry, overall very nice beer that I wouldn't be shy to drink by the six pack...which I may tonight.

    Torch and crown tenement pilsner
...semi clear light gold appearance with a long lasting fluffy head
..medium light carbonation with about a medium body.
...aroma is bitter citrus seed and peel which dominates followed by a little grain, malt, yeast and cereal
..taste stays close to aroma with the dry bitter citrus peel and seed definitely dominating. Some cereal lingers in the aftertaste
...overall its very good but the citrus peel really takes over and leaves an oily aftertaste [IMG]

Back for another new one on this rainy cool evening...Mrs Phisher and I have been together for 21 years now, yesterday was our 10th wedding anniversary. To celebrate, the boys went to Gigi and Opa's around lunch time and are sleeping over. We've got a lot done and also went to Tonewood for a beer and four pack to go, then ordered some great Italian take out. But now it is time to dive into a beer from our fellow BA @Providence, we did an unplanned trade of some of our favorites. I really wanted to open the zoigl tonight but cold and dreary weather calls for English beer right??? So I called an audible, here we go...

Fox Farm - Tiddly (Nitro Dark Mild 3.7%)

Pours dark chestnut brown, off white nitro head; despite the nitro this one is a tad more bubbly in appearance as opposed to creamy looking microbubbles, gets more bubbly as it settles and it loses most of its nitro appearance.

The nose is mostly toast forward, there is some roastiness as well; milk duds, very light coffee notes that lean earthy in quality, dry leaves.

Taste lightly browned toast, some nuttiness; the finish is a combination of very faint coffee and black tea; ratio of black tea wins out, then finishes with some milk chocolate.

Body is light, low carbonation gives it a soft smooth feel; mostly dry, clean, nice little touch of bitterness to round it out.

A very enjoyable dark mild that fits right in line with others I have enjoyed, this was a really good beer to pour at this moment, thanks for sharing.

    ----------------------------

It looks like @snaotheus has now taken the lead over @Snowcrash000 who started off so strong, I think Ryan is just preparing for hours of forced socialization....:stuck_out_tongue: let's fill up the thread while he's gone at the play.

@ovaltine I've been meaning to do the same thing with Oberon.

@shkin I guess you must like grapefruit, it is a tad sweet but Cape May's The Grove is a pretty solid shandy, as is The Bog.

Happy Anniversary my friend. Good call on the Tidly, much more appropriate than the Zoigl for chilly weather. I really like reading reviews written by you of beers that I also enjoy, ha. You might just convert me into someone who is interested in beer reviews.

    Tonewood parkway paradise pilsner
...appearance is really pale light gold with no head
...body is about medium with medium carbonation
...aroma is grain, cereal, flowery almost perfume like. Believe the perfume aroma seems like peach which is coming off as very pleasant
..taste is grainy, citrus peel, earthy and flowery.
    ...interesting and pleasant [IMG]

I buy Oberon every year, and have since ….. 2009 or 2010? Have no idea why I’ve not reviewed it before tonight, other than the fact that I’m a moron.

100% agree on the aroma on that beer, it’s a very floral/peach/pear sort of note; distinct and very different. It drinks very nicely too in my experience.

A nice Saturday winding down. Got started on the gardens, got tired of it so played with the tractor cleaning up the ample tree debris - some pretty large wood laying around. It's maybe a luxury having the machine, but man you can get a ton more done in less time. Waiting for Bruins Game 7 - not filled with hope here...

In the glass is a wonderful beer:

Barreled Souls Half Shilling - a Scottish ale so another new style. It's 3.8% ABV.

Pours a deep ruby color - heavily tinted brown, but the net effect is a deep red. Crystal clear. Enormous, rocky tan head that dissappears after a few minutes leaving a little ring and a within continent across the top.

The smell is malt candy. Bready, roasty, and strong caramel leaning toward toffee. A bit earthy and an indistinct smell of chocolate? Yep...just a trace.

The taste follows exactly. It's a low ABV malty treat. There's just a touch of sweetness and there's a little spice added to the earthiness. Bready with toffee and just the smallest tease of chocolate. Late in the taste I get a slight tang that could be rye or maybe peat or smoke.

Bright, mildly carbonated almost but not quite medium bodied. Slick and smooth, exceptionally easy drinking.

If you haven't figured it out, I'm liking this one a lot. Lots of flavor, low ABV, easy going down, straightforward. Clean and well-executed in my opinion. Have to dampen that enthusiasm when it comes to the numbers, but it seems on target for the style. Maybe 4.1 or so.

@jonphisher - happy anniversary to you and the missus.

Poured from a 16 ounce undated can into a tulip glass at 50 degrees.

Look- Burgundy, medium pink scant head that dissipates immediately, opaque, large visible particulate at edges, leaves granular residue on glass wall in lieu of lacing, zero head retention.

Smell- Boysenberry, guava, banana, peach, between medium and high strength of scent.

Taste- Peach, banana, guava, boysenberry, highly sour, moderately sweet, high strength of flavor.

Feel- Between medium and full body, slightly above average carbonation, moderately gritty, nectar like, highly sour, moderately sweet.

Overall- First, it is very disappointing when the can states “drink fresh,” but no canned on date is put on the can. This beer is from a fresh Tavour order, so I know it’s fresh, but very annoying. Look of Smoothie Sours is always awful and this one didn’t disappoint. The bouquet and flavors were very vibrant and meshed pretty well with one another. The body was nice between medium and full, but this beer had a noticeable grittiness I could have lived without. Overall it provided a good drinking experience, but definitely had some flaws.

    Jacks abby porch fest
    ...almost clear amber appearance
...medium bodied with close to medium carbonation.
...aroma is flowery with some mild non descriptive fruit.malt and honey along with some cereal which all added up to a nice aroma.
...taste is mildly sweet with a very, very mild hop bite. Reminds me of nectarines but thats not quite it.
..overall this is what I enjoy in a beer[IMG]

    Thanks @LeRose

Sounds like a tasty beer too, not a style I’ve seen pop up around here that much. A brewery I love did just win gold for their wee heavy but unfortunately draft only and about an hour and a half away from me so…

I’ve been hoping to see Porch Fest around @HoppingMadMonk i guess I may eventually if it has popped up by you.

Poured from a 16 ounce can dated 3-27-24 into a snifter at 47 degrees.

Look- Straw, very hazy, no visible particulate, white creamy head, average head retention, slightly above average lacing.

Smell- Clementine, grapefruit, ripe melon, medium strength of scent.

Taste- Clementine, grapefruit, ripe melon, strawberry, pith, moderately sweet, between medium and high strength of flavor.

Feel- Between medium and full bodied, slightly below average carbonation, highly creamy, low bitterness, soft, moderately sweet, mildly mouth watering finish, mildly mouth warming.

Overall- Outstanding appearance, exactly what you would expect from a NEIPA. Bouquet was a nice mix of tropical fruit at moderate strength. Flavor was also an appealing mix of tropical fruit, but at a slightly higher intensity. High creaminess and a moderately full body with some mouth warming properties highlighted what was a great feel. Overall this beer provided a really nice drinking experience.

While it won't replace a nice pilsner, it's a beer I could easily drink while outside cooking - definitely an "I'll have another" type of brew. And now that you mention it, it is like a Wee Heavy Jr. Carries a lot of straightforward flavors and with the low ABV you can drink more than one. Barreled Souls has a nice Scoth Ale too - Munro.

Yea that it was caught me off guard I feel like all the scotch ales I’ve had have been higher in abv, like wee heavies. Cool on them for brewing that one.
