then the scores would have to be weighted much differently. “other considerations” sounds only as important to me as Look. The overall score would be weighted mostly toward Taste. Or have I opened a whole other can of worms there?

Let me ask you this - when you go to your local liquor store, grocery shop or brewery, do you just buy beer that you want to drink/try, price be damned?

Price, if known, could influence my "other considerations" score. If I think I am getting a heck of a deal in terms of good look, flavor, etc relative to the price I paid it would bump the number up. If, like the other day, I would never ever pay again what I paid for what I got, it would bump my other considerations score down, and it would be noted in my comments. >95% of the time I review, rather than rate, so the reason for my scores are on record for my future consideration when shopping again. I review and score for my own future use.

probably worms....I'm sure the BA community will let you know. IMO, the amount of discussion re: "overall" and the variety of ways it is being used or interpreted means there is room for improvement there. There are lots of ways to personally assign weight to the overall drinking experience. For me, I want the beer to match the can description and give me good pleasure for the cost. My sense of smell sucks so I personally put waaay more weight on looks than on a smell rating and am more confident in my ability to describe the look than the smell. Although,I highly value the few beers that have noticeable good smell to me..

The can description vs. reality also has no influence on what is in the glass. Are you suggesting that misleading descriptions on the can should also not be considered in selecting numeric ratings?

I'm guilty. Sometimes, the whole is better than the sum of the parts. Sometimes, I enjoy a beer more (or leas ) than my subjective evaluation of the different aspects to it. Sometimes, a beer is more fun to deconstruct than it is to drink. All of these get factored into my Overall score.

So should any info from the packaging inform the scoring?

Because, if the label says IPA, but what comes out of the package is a Stout, that beer isn't going to get a high score as an IPA, is it?

Plus, most of the writing on the label, outside of style and ABV, is just fluff from the pointy heads over in marketing.

The OP made minimal logic with the post, but the title itself opened a can of worms on this thread. The topic is good, but the OP hijaked the thread with arguing about a 4.5-4.75. Maybe a new thread should be started.
