Dark Lord Day 2024

It's like night and day. You could walk up to just about any of the beer tents and get a beer within a minute or two, whether it was BA/guest/etc.

 

Awesome, that was my hope; I've gotten lazy and impatient in my "old" age!

 

This. We had a great time overall but the guest taps were lackluster and sat for a long time. That first tap had some Boneyard beer on for at least 6 hours.

 

Also back then you had to run to DL variants before they kicked. There is at least one variant at every station without fail.

 

Random Dark Lord variants are so accessible (and this isn’t a complaint from me as this is exactly what I asked for for years) it almost trivializes them. Gone are the days of “X variant is on! Quick get it line.” Now it’s “Handjee? What year? Yeah,
I saw that at 2 other stations maybe we should get something else that we won’t find later.”

I've been going to DLD almost every year since 2015 or 16 and last year is the first time that I ever attempted to get a DL variant pour. I always hated the idea of standing in a long ass line only to find that the variant kicked before I got there especially when I knew I would be missing killer beers being shared.
This year I saw XX at 3 different tap areas when I questioned pre-DLD if it would even be tapped

 

Damn. I missed XX. Never saw it in draft. Never saw Sword of Jovan on draft either.

 

I happened to be at the guest taps when they tapped the Cloudburst - was my favorite draft of the day. Had pours of the XX and Egregious Philbin and really liked the Philbin. I thought the XX was good but nothing special.

Had a great time, only thing was my knees were killing from the standing / walking on pavement/gravel all day. I endeavor to perservere.....

 

This is the big one for me, embarrassingly. I've never had any of the "big" DL variants, and it's just one of those "gotta try 'em before I die" things for me.

 

Aw damn man, definitely should have come this year! Not only were the taps flowing, but people were popping their new bottles like there was no tomorrow LMAO.

 

Yeah, I planned to but the dog's surgery and some house shit got in the way lol. Definitely hoping to make it out there next year.

 

Yep, I will just echo what others have stated...fest is essentially perfect at this point. I believe I have not missed a year since 2016ish and it is incredible where they have come from. We brought a first timer and he could not believe the sheer number of people. I'm in awe at the crowd they draw year after year and this has to be close to a record considering all the real estate they use.

Food options are plentiful, people are still nice in 2024, draft beer everywhere with no line and even the merchandise line moved reasonably.

Keep it up FFF.

 

I would like to see Munster Punch bottled. Since it is technically Dark Lord, I guess they would only allow it to be sold on the day of the event. To sell it outside that day would not be very metal.

 

When it reopens The brewpub has to have 1 perma DL variant line, right?

 

Gotta give props to this sick Zombie Dust costume created by the artist for GWAR. Fantastic work imo.

 

If it ever opens. Didn’t they say it would be open by DLD?

 

I believe Spring of 2024. So, I think they have a few more weeks.
