I'd recommend a quick trip across the river over to Hudson, Wisconsin to go to Casanova Liquor there. They do have a damn amazing selection. Oliphant in Somerset, WI is also a good stop, and they usually have some kind of BA stout on tap, or for sale. Lift Bridge was mentioned, they also have a location in New Richmond, WI as well.

It shouldn't be hard to find, it's kind of in the name. If you venture to here, carve out some time to visit South Lyndale Liquors too. About three and half miles away and they just recently moved into a new building.

The two stores tend to rival each other for selection and price and Lyndale is upping their class by offering pay-by-your-own-pour wine taps and a great deli sandwich shop (compared to France 44's already established cheese shop and deli sandwiches). Can't go wrong really either way, between the two you should find some gems like Three Floyds Cocomungo and Half Acre's Benthic still on their shelves, not to mention PLENTY of BA Darkness).

    Their.

Forager's big stouts & barleywines are often on my top 10 list of beers every year - they are a stellar brewery. That said, a couple of recent misses has me more hesitant to slap down a big stack of bills on their (virtual) bar.

However. If I was looking for world-class BA stouts &/or barleywines in the Twin Cities, Forager is where to look. They also have a web site with their to-go beers & you can order them & pick them up the same day, so you'll know they'll still be there.

I'm guessing they didn't have Otter in Vienna on Monday? Was told it was sold out where I was there for the release.

Thanks for the tip. I drive by there all the time, but have never stopped at the store. I'll have to make the time.

No sarcasm. As noted, I moved here last year, and so constantly looking for new information and places that I've not heard about previously.

Heard a report on MPR this week about Arbeiter, for example, as mentioned by someone above, and concluded that I need to get there and check it out.

    Nouvelle.

Mentioned earlier and I agree. It can get a little spendy, IMO. Good beer, good food. Their Kolsch is outstanding, also IMO.

I will also always recommend Fair State and Utepils.

Check out Northern Taphouse in Plymouth. One of the best tap lists on the west side of the metro. Usually has a few high-end BA stouts, and nice regional beers on the menu. A bit closer to Blaine than Eagan at least.

Appreciate the recommendation. Looks like they have an outpost in Woodbury as well, which is where my wife's friend lives. So that would be a convenient stop.

How's the food there? The menu looks fairly diverse and interesting, and it sounds like they're proud of their cocktails. My wife doesn't typically drink beer, but she likes a good G&T (preferably made with Botanist gin).

I have to tell you I got a good laugh when I looked at the Plymouth taplist. It's a great list, don't get me wrong, but 4 light beers on tap (miller lite, Curs light, busch light and Mich light)? I don't think I've seen that many light beers on tap before. In fact, I can't recall the last time I saw Busch light on tap period.

Do your wife a favor and grab a bottle of Far North Sprits Solveig gin at a metro liquor store. The distillery is located in northern MN near the ND & Canada borders & their spirits are fantastic.

My son claims to be a gin SME & claims Solveig is one of the best he has had, (he also loves Botanist).

Your draft Busch light comment is funny to a midwesterner, Busch Light on draft is as common as Hamm's around here:grin:. Very popular!

    Enjoy your trip!

Good to know regarding Far North..any idea how their Whisky's are?

Yes the Busch Light phenoma in Minnesota (and ND as well)...I don't get it. I drink probably more AAL Lights than a lot of people here and there are many better. It's not bad or off but has very minimal flavor even compared to other AAL Lights.....which to think about it might be why it is popular with some

I am a novice gin drinker, but I really liked Solveig, very unique!

I do drink bourbon and rye, but unfortunately I have not tried either of those spirits from Far North, they are on my liquor "list" the next time I'm in MN.

Thanks. We actually have some at home here. Her cousins got her a bottle a couple years back. For whatever reason, she doesn't care for it.

Her favorites are botanist and empress, though in a pinch she can do Bombay sapphire East India. She says she likes the botanicals in those gins.

They all taste like poison to me.
