If only there were dozens of other barrel aged beers available with the same sweet additons you don't have to wait in line for.

The KC beer scene is still in a weird spot where there's not a lot of locally-made barrel-aged beers that generate much in the way of interest. If you were going on social media chatter alone, you'd think little in that space was available for to-go purchase here beyond BCBS and whatever Boulevard has recently released. With BKS and Alma Mader getting the most national press at the moment and the latter's barrel program being largely member-only, BKS found a good time to strike with an in-person release.

    ---

    Moving on to what's next:

    - Pathlight's 2024 No Touchy barleywine release is this Friday, 2/9.
    - BKS is having an English ale event on Saturday, 2/17.
    - Boulevardia is officially back on the calendar in its usual Father's Day spot, with the Taps & Tastes brewery lineup announcement set for March 13.

The lack of good BA beer in KC is a little disappointing. I'd trust BKS to release good ones, and I'm certain they were worth the effort, I just didn't feel like dealing with it. Some people live for events though (looking at SP's packed event weeks and release days.) I got spoiled with the COVID online order days and prefer to order to pick up at my leisure.

They've already been released, but Callsign and Sandhill both had at least one BA beer available to-go this past week. I had never seen either offer a BA stout, though, I don't keep really close tabs on Callsign. I bought a couple of the Sandhills one since it was a very reasonable price. Maybe I can dip into one before the Super Bowl.

Pathlight website still shows Blix as available to-go in mixed four packs and individual cans. Hard to say if that'll survive to No Touchy release, but I wouldn't mind having those beers sitting around in my boxes.

I was at Hi-Dive last night and parked across the street from 39th St Brewery; the lights were on inside and it looks like all major work has been completed; I also saw someone inside by the brewing equipment. Between all that and from looking at permit activity, it looks like they are indeed getting close to opening.

In news that @Harrison8 has been patiently waiting for, 39th St Brewery finally has an opening date - June 8.

And just as I feared, they're finally opening within a month of me moving out of that neighborhood....

I'll swing by sometime to check it out, though if I'm driving that way for a beer, I'll probably find myself at Alma Mader instead.

I heard a rumor (from a non-beer friend) that Crane Brewing is going to move out of Raytown possibly to OP? Does anyone know if there's any truth to that? Don't make it back nearly enough to KC, but usually spend a decent chunk of my time in OP.

That's a rumor I haven't heard. Your friend may have conflated Crane with their (former in-house) neighbor of Harp Barbecue...who *is* moving from Raytown to OP in the very near future.

Considering 39th Street Brewery just opened in the neighborhood I left, I would not like losing my new neighborhood brewery - Crane.

Disappointing to see Harp's BBQ leave. I can't help but wonder if OP would support Crane better than their current location. Their current location is such an idyllic spot on the Rock Island Trail.

Got it, Thanks @Harrison8 & @swid . I figured when I couldn't find anything online about it there was something fishy about the rumor. I've heard it's a great spot to bike to. My parent's house in OP would be a little bit of a bike ride, but I might have to give it a shot one day. Their co-founder is a childhood friend's dad, so as long as they're doing well I'm happy for them.

Strawberry Hill Brewing (in the eponymous Kansas City, Kansas neighborhood) opened yesterday.

That was a brewery opening that wasn’t on my (or many others’) radar, but it had been in the works since 2018.

Only one* local GABF medal this year:

    - Alma Mader Pacific Portal - Silver, West Coast IPA

*River Bluff (which has a KC brewery/taproom) won a gold in Fruit Wheat Beer for their St. Joe location and KC Bier Co. won a gold with two homebrewers in the Pro-Am category.

A couple of notes to close out the year.

    - Dubious Claims (Excelsior Springs) announced earlier today that they're closing on 2/1/2025

    - While nothing has been publicly confirmed, it appears that City Barrel is getting rid of its own brewery and its beers will all be contract-brewed going forward.
